Hi, All! Promised to post about the Seas Aqua tour at Epcot. Wellllllllll.....we just loved it! The group meets at Guest Services and they show you where they lift the larger animals into the aquarium by crane, where the filters are, etc. You go backstage in the Seas and visit the manatees area. The guide was very knowledgeable. Then they train you on using the "snuba" equipment. (It is an air tank but you are wearing a vest that will not let you dive under the surface. It took a little getting used to but I quickly forgot about it when I was in the water looking at the various critters!) They make you sign a waiver and sign that you will not harrass the sea turtles, endangered species, etc. They give you a wet suit, booties, flippers, mask, in addition to the breathing equipment. There are locker rooms and lockers. Once everyone is changed (bathing suit under the wetsuit), they walk you THROUGH the SEAS in YOUR WETSUIT!!!!! I had hoped that the wetsuit would act like spanx and smooth everything out, but nooooooooo.
Once at the edge of the tank, they help you into your gear, take a quick photo (5x7 and T-shirt are includd in the price) and then you are free to go for 30 mins. The sharks, rays and various fish are there and they seem very unimpressed with the people. The sharks stayed near the bottom, lots of fish came very close. The most fun was the sea turtle. I spotted him a short distance away, near the bottom. I paddled a little closer and he came right up to me! His shel bumped my leg!!!! I tried to get out of his way because I was nervous about getting in trouble, but I couldn't back up very easily and the turtle is a better swimmer than I am.....apparently, he did not sign any waivers. Afterwards they mentioned that the turtles are fed by hand, so maybe he thought I resembled one of the staff? It was very cool! There are also hidden Mickeys in the tank, allegedly 3 but our crew all found the same 2. Fun!
Afterwards, you visit the dolphins (they are separated from the other animals. The 4 dolphins at WDW are adolescent males and they got into some trouble.....spinning the turtles and flipping rays out of the water!) Then time to shower and change. The showers were nice and shampoo, etc was provided.
We had a great time and would recommend it. Definitely worth the time and money. (Don't remember the price offhand but want to say $150-ish? )
Will post later about Lunch with an Imagineer!!!!
