Segway tours

Has anyone ever done that segway tour at Epcot? Or the one at Fort Wilderness? I never have but am considering it - I had a play on a segway in Singapore and it was SO much fun whizzing around the course! However I can imagine zooming around the various pavillions in Epcot would be even more exciting! It's pretty pricey though.

I've heard great things about it, but the negatives have been that they're so strict with where you can go and when you can go there. For example, you HAVE to stay with the group, so there's no exploring. You're basically paying a bunch of money to test drive a Segway with a bunch of other people.

Not sure where they take you on the Fort Wilderness one, either; does anyone have a map of the "course?"

I wouldn't imagine you get to zoom much as the CMs likely wouldn't allow it. I'd still imagine it was a blast!

I am just SURE I'd run a small child down (accidentally of course.) It's not for me.

I'd love to try these sometimes. Although I'm not the most coordinated person. I could see there being some problems.

You don't need to be coordinated! I'm certainly not; I have trouble walking around normally without falling over myself most of the time but even I managed to pick up driving a segway pretty easily. There's nothing to it - you just tilt forwards to go forwards, and tilt backwards to slow down. Then obviously some simple steering. It's so much fun!

How do you not fall flat on your face?! I would feel so scared when I first tilted forward!

Lizzy B -- I think you do the Segway stuff (at least at Epcot) when nobody else is in the park, so you don't have to worry about running over small children! Ducks, however -- you will have to worry about!

I wish I knew the route for the segway tour in Fort Wilderness. I'd be freaked out if I had to take one through the woods with all those sticky-uppy roots to "trip" over.

We did it at WS and it was AWESOME!
The first hour was a training course inside Innoventions where they teach you how to drive the thing. I was certain I was going to ram into someone or something but I was safe!
After the training they took us out to WS. Since we booked an early tour WS was empty and that was so nice. A guide takes you from country to country and tells you about different things in the country. I really liked that part because they talked about different aspects of building the countries..etc..then right in front of Italy they let you "roam free" for about 15 minutes. You have to stay within certain parameters..but it wasn't that bad..I wouldn't have wanted to venture off too far anyway. Then you finish up the rest of the countries and head back to Innoventions. You don't do Mexico or Canada because of the layout of the countries and you don't do Norway since the breakfast is open and people are milling around.
Overall it was worth every single penny and we'd do it again!

Actually...I've seen the tours in Epcot. I think...I'm currently a sleep-deprived mommy of sick children...but I'm pretty sure I've seen a whole passel of folks running around on them, and all I can think is..."I'd kill myself or someone else. I just know it." You see, I'm the person who panics at the self serve softserve...and I end up with the 1 foot high ice cream cone. :-/

They design them so that you can't fall flat on your face! Seriously, it's a lot easier than it looks! And incredibly fun

That sounds great! Are there many people in each group? Segways are so much fun - did you find it hard to give it back at the end of the tour? I can't imagine getting bored of one

Your both right! You start the tour in Future World..and then ride through World Showcase & back to Future World. Usually Future World is open and World Showcase is closed...but there is a late tour that goes through WS after it has opened.

I would suggest doing the early one though! It's totally worth it to have the park to yourself (and not have to worry about running over small children).

I think there was about 6 people in our group...I don't think they would allow more than 10 in a group because the training area isn't huge.

It was hard to give the Segway back..it was sooo much fun! The instructor told us they cost about 10,000 per Segway so we gave it right back.

Nothing like a $10,000 invoice to make it easier to part with something. silly

There are few words that I like better in the English language than "You're both right." clapping

Bella - you make it sound so fun! Okay, maybe I'm game after all.

Has anyone found out more about the Segway Tour at FW? My husband would love to do this! It sounds like the one at Fort Wilderness is more "off-road".
