I agree with this ban even though i have one myself.I just use it for my go-pro as a handle for filming in front of me.(not extended).Hopefully next up is some way of stopping all those I-Pads ruining the dark rides/night-time spectaculars ...

Try watching wishes or the castle show from the hub.On the wrong day it seems like a veritable sea of screens !

it's incredible...I know phones and anything with a brightly lit screen can be quite distracting but a 9" screen is just silly! It boggles my mind that people would even want to use the more inferior camera on a tablet over their phone, compact camera or SLR!

I guess my email worked!
Yes! This IS a step in the right direction! Those selfie sticks drove me crazy in December. Much more prevalent than in 2012.
Sometimes I think the "good ol' days" are the good old days because we weren't able to document every second of just how average they were! lol I have to remind myself sometimes to step away from the camera and just BE in the moment, the good old fashioned way.

I am infinitely grateful mrhub.
Everyone has natural selfie sticks (arms) anyway - and if it isn't long enough, then get someone to take a moment for you instead!

As am I! Next time I need a "strongly worded letter" written, I will ask MrHub for help!

Exactly. Half the fun of taking a selfie is getting part of your arm in the picture!

I still personally feel they should ban the sticks completely. I dread it's only a matter of time before someone truly gets seriously hurt during a parade, fireworks or even walking through the parks be it a CM or a park guest. I wear glasses and my biggest fear is that I'll get poked in the eye or that my glasses will get knocked off and possibly stepped on. Guess I'll have to wear sunglasses everywhere I go in Disney World.....
"All my life I wonder how it feels to pass a day, not above them but part of them.
And out there living in the sun, give me one day out there, all I ask is one to hold forever. Out there where they all live unaware, what I'd give, what I'd dare, just to live one day out there."
This seems to be a recent trend, a big concert festival that I go to every year recently said they are not allowed this year. They are awesome (and I have one for my gopro that I use all the time) but not at the expense of ruining someones vacation.
Dont get me started on the iPads... A sea of iPads in the air during fireworks just looks ridiculous!
Fish are friends, not food!
I saw several CMs in DL tell guests they had to put their selfie sticks away before going on a ride.
Today they had to close down Space Mountain for a selfie stick.
Apparently this has been spotted outside of the Big Thunder Mountain Queue

Is now on rides at DLP, looks like a company wide ban
They definitely should ban those selfie sticks, especially something that is as obnoxiously long as this one!!

Don't get me started on this. I already complained about it in my trip way back in 2013. There were more than a few of them that had ruined my photos, like this one for example.
And unfortunately, this is pretty common in Asia and other parts of the world. Somehow, over there, no one frowns their use like this. So I see people using large tablets to take pictures and such.

.... I wouldn't say ruined ....
.... Rather a brilliant exhibition of Postmodern Photography ... a perfect simulacra of the image, contained within the image.

I see a lot of these iPad/tablet photo takers too....They don't frown as they're too busy jostling for position...they're not concerned about the quality - just that they get a shot

My first ever selfie stick run in was on our September 2014 trip. Guy a few rows in front of us used it to film the Frozen Fireworks spectacular, totally ruining our view. I'd never even heard of a selfie stick before that and I was not pleased about the "guy with his phone on a big stick".

G works in London and was out taking his usual walk around Houses of Parliament/Big Ben. Saw this couple trying to take a selfie. Woman goes over and offers help. Now this is the point a normal person takes the phone and takes the photo, no she gets out her selfie stick and hands it to them so they can do it themselves!
