"Selling" someone on Disney

If you taking someone to Disney World for the first time and trying to "sell" it to them, what would you make sure was part of the itinerary? mickey

After they've ridden Splash Mountain it's a done deal! It is a good idea to take them to some of the good dining to get rid of the notion that it's a dining wasteland.

I think slow and steady is the way to do it. If you overwhelm people, they'll just feel like Disney World is exhausing.

I think I'd determine 5-10 rides and a few restaurants to be sure to hit. After that, just go where you can get fastpasses. And spend a lot of time relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere.

I'd also possibly book one of the more intersting backstage tours--like an Epcot diving tour or the Yuletide Fantasy tour--that aren't geared toward "Disney history fans."

Finally, I'd bring them in on the planning as much as possible. Have them pick a few restaurants and rides that they want to be sure to try.

I have to say when I was being "sold" on Disney, I was introduced very slowly. My first trip I barely rode any rides. We did like 1 EMH at the MK and a few other 1/4 day trips and the rest of the time we relaxed and ate. I think that was part of why I liked it so much and wanted to go back.

ITA, keep a slow pace, one park a day... we still do that.
If you don't get to everything- you'll be back soon. Wink

Totally sold my MIL!

She was actually kinda dreading our last trip - had NO desire to go to WDW. I told her look, it's BEAUTIFUL at the resort we're staying at and you'll love WDW hospitality and hell, we are paying so stop complaining!

Now she is so excited to go back with us this trip! mickey

You know, where you stay really does make a LOT of difference. If someone doesn't have to spend so much time in transportation, on busses, etc., it's bound to be a more relaxing and enjoyable trip.

Oh, absolutely! For example, while I know lots of people stay at value resorts because it's cost effective, don't think that'd be the place to stay if you wanted to 'sell' someone on Disney!

Probably not--especially if they're on board for a relaxing, luxury vacation. Disney World sounds expensive to everyone, so they're usually expecting a deluxe hotel.

Luckily, you don't have to break the bank to go there, but nobody knows that at the beginning!

I stayed at ASSports once. It wasn't relaxing at all. Good thing it was a commando trip because there was no sleeping there. If that was DH's first trip to WDW, I highly doubt we'd have ever gone back.

DH was a reluctant WDW "lover" until I took him for Food & Wine - That's what sold him. Esp. when we started going to F&W by ourselves. Now I can hardly get him to go anywhere else.

Was it the noise that kept you from sleeping?

For me, it was Spectro on the first night. I was reluctant to go to WDW the first time. Then, it happened that we were going 1 1/2 days after hurricane Charlie blew through. Our flight was cancelled, the only flight we could get was into Miami and then drive 4 hours....we had booked a vacation house, which had no power and no water after the hurricane, so at my home airport I was scrambling on the cell phone to find someplace to stay....Ended up at ASMu, fine, and first night saw spectro.....Merryweather, Aurora's godmother, waved at me! Since this site is for grown ups, I will come out and say....I KNEW it was a person in a costume.....but she waved at me...at ME!!!! yay And it was magical and I was 5 years old again and I was hooked. Add to that the customer service and the small special imagineering touches.......Now DH knows that he has created a WDW monster....I am the one on forums and listening to podcasts.... mickey

I love stories like that. Zapperz has a great "why I'm hooked on WDW" story, too. I should go find that and post it here.
