Silhouettes - Do you purchase them?

This seemed like the logical place to post this question, although you might disagree. My family have all been collecting silhouettes from WDW since the park first opened. We have a whole wall of them, spanning 4 generations! (I'll take a pic the next time I'm at my mom's.) Does anyone else collect this fun and unique momento? I love looking at the one my grandparents had made of themselves the very first year that Magic Kingdom was opened.

We've never done them..but that wall of silhouettes sounds pretty cool!

It's really pretty! And I have one of my daughter of her first visit - well, first visit that she cared about anything anyway - when she was two. It hangs in her room. I'll do one of my son in a year or so as well. It's just fun to capture what everyone looks like at a certain age from a unique perspective.

That's a really cool idea! We never thought about it. Now we'll have to look into it next time we are there. Thanks Lizzy.

You're welcome! And in case anyone is scratching their head, wondering what I'm talking about, they're available in a little stand right off of Main Street in MK. I think they're available somewhere else - France in Epcot maybe? - but I can't remember.

That's a really cool idea Lizzy. It makes me wish I had started doing them before now.

Yep, you can get them over in France right in front of Chefs de France, too.

I think my brother and I had our silhouettes done when we were little, but I haven't had one done since. Haven't even thought about it. But I will now!

I have actually seen a lot of cool silhouettes on colored or patterned backgrounds that I want for Holden's room. Maybe I'll do on at WDW and cut it out...ohhh wheels are turning.

Yay! So glad that I could share something that helps all of you. I'll see if mom can snap a pic of that display and I'll post as soon as possible.

Hey Guys - here's the pic I promised of the silhouette wall at my mom's. My grandparents are featured in the central one, from their first trip the park opened. My brother and I are in the one at 1 o'clock on our first visit in 1978. The others are of subsequent visits, as well as my brother's daughters and my little girl. Enjoy!

Thank you! We treasure them. I was at Mom's the other day, and there are others that we need to group somewhere else and display. For a time, WDW went to rectangular frames, which fowled us up.

We want to do these when we go again. There's a stand in Liberty Square that do these too. Do you know how much it costs? I thought it was $25 each but not sure.

It's right around $25, framed (and you get two copies). It might actually be a little less. I'll be there 11/11 and I'll try and remember to check. I need to have one done of my son, actually.

Where will you be on 11/11???? That's the day I get in. I'm going to Epcot first then heading to Chef Mickey's for dinner followed by MVMCP.

Oh that's right!! I'm not sure yet. We're surprising our daughter with a day trip, so we haven't been able to figure out where we'll be. But good to know it's a MVMCP nite! I'll keep you posted.

It's shaking out that we're going to be just opposite of you! I think we're going to try and start at MK, then head over to Epcot for the evening. I'll keep you posted, tho! Maybe we can be like ships passing at the turnstiles Smile

Let me know. I can always head over to MK after the Wine Seminar (it's from 2:00 - 2:45). My dinner reservation is at 5:10. I'll email you my cell number.

I checked the other day while I was in MK, and for two people in the silhouette, it would be right around $24, including the oval frame. Here's a pic that I snapped of the pricing.

Hey Lizzy, if you get it without the frame is it on a regular sheet of paper? Like I could frame it myself in a square frame?

I think they're mounted on a piece of cardboard, but I could be wrong. We've never gotten them without the frames. I'll try to remember and ask next time for ya. We love the oval frames, though. They went to rectangular frames in the late 80s and those silhouettes are relegated to the back bedroom ha!

I've never bough these before. I sort of remember having one done of me when I was little, but I don't know what happened to it. This thread has really made me want a set of these, maybe I'll make my kids sit for them next time we're down.

So cute! I want to get one of Holden..do they have to sit for a long time?? If so we may need to wait on that laugh Sitting is not his specialty.
