Sitting here with no power and 2 kids...

So... woke up this morning to no power. A storm came through but didnt think it was bad enough to take out the grid here, so anyways...

My son had to see my Dad to get his eyes checked (My Dad is an optometrist), so I decided to take my MacBook to get it charged so I at least had something to do when I got home... lol. So we go get lunch afterwards, and came home to the power still being out. So ok... go downstairs, and let my pug upstairs so I can take him outside, and all of a sudden I hear fire trucks and such. Just down the road from us (We live in a condo sub division), a fire truck pulled up. Im thinking... "Oh great! Not again!"

A little back story. About 3-4 weeks ago, out front near the main road, a condo burned down, and affected 2 other units and did outside damage to another. It was pretty crazy. People were outside watching this destruction occur... ends up it was started from a faulty freezer in the garage. Ends up... the garages are fireproof, but the lady panicked and left the door open, thus couldnt be contained as well, and boom.... got 2 units completely damaged, another minor, and another with outside damage.

So with all of that in the back of my mind... im seeing 2 fire trucks that I can see pull up to a condo with an ADT sign out front with no one home. So the firemen were trying to find a way in to check what was going on without taking the door down. Ends up the second floor had an open window, so they had someone go in that way. All signs pointed to no fire, so phhheeeewwwwww......

So... that killed 30 minutes of our time.... lol! Now there gone, and im sitting on my MacBook with my iPhone plugged into it so its power can stay at 100%, and my MacBooks battery is pretty darn good. Should be able to get 6 hours out of it. So were chillin on the second floor. Kids are trying to play as well as they can, but are getting bored... id take them to a movie, but there isnt really anything out. They have already seen Kung Fu Panda... and nothing else out for Brooke... so were kinda stuck.

Compared to that, sitting here in the middle of a construction zone with Day 1 of the Master Bath remodel is a piece of cake Tongue Good luck Mase!

I dont know man... sitting around with construction is about equal to two kids... or even worse. That would drive me nuts!

I feel for you. I can barely keep myself entertained when we lose our power. I can not imagine trying to keep two kids entertained as well.

Well... I got the youngest down for a nap. Hoping she sleeps till the power comes back on... if not... we may be heading out and trying to find something to do. My oldest is sitting beside me right now reading a book. He has expressed being very bored, but he is doing good now. I officially struck 50% on my MacBook and I started with 67%. So im doing pretty well... but now im listening to the sports station here in Columbus, so that may hit my battery a bit more... lol... but so far. The kids have been champs through this.

Upon further consideration, I declare temporary insanity and retract said comment about taking the 2 kids over the demolition.
I think the Barney remark had alot to do with it as well....

Yes. Because you can walk away from the demolition. Not so much with the kiddoes Smile

Mase - glad that order is restored. Our satellite was out all day. No fun. LOTS of Barbie videos :-/

I'll give you that. Yo Gabba Gabba is banned in our house on account of Mommy's sanity. Martha Speaks and Curious George, on the other hand, are encouraged...I may have watched those on my own a time or two Smile

I love Yo Gabba Gabba!! Haha!!

Anyways, Mase, so glad the power came back on! I cannot imagine! Ours went out a few weeks ago from 8 p.m. until 430 a.m. It would have been awful except DS went down for the night pretty soon after--he's not that reliant on electricity but I can't imagine having to entertain for hours. Oy.

Yeah... I went a head and did it, and honestly... I dont like it. I have heard a lot of people tell me with Netflix and Hulu you could get rid of your cable, and while Hulu would probably be better when Fall and Spring are here... I havent liked it too much. But I download a lot of my TV Shows so its not too big of a deal. Also... when my kids can watch both Nick and Disney in there full glory... then id be in... lol

I think if we had cable it would be a waste..but we love watching The Daily Show..and we've gotten to catch up on a lot of our shows that we missed in the Fall. I just hate the ads! I feel like if we are paying $7.99 a month why are you showing me all these flipping ads? I love Netflix in that way!

Yeah... the ads are a HUGE disappointment to me, and I agree. If your paying that much for it then why have them. Let alone... most of the shows that are on there... you can watch on the companies website as well. I know we did that for an episode of House in the past.

Plus... I need my ESPN and FSO... lol

The No Power and 2 kids is starting to look better to me again...we had a few issues with the plumber and the plumbing on Saturday....the kitchen is right below the master bath he was working on.....and this was our kitchen ceiling by the end of the day...

The good news, of course, is that they will fix it all. The bad news is the additional hassle of them now having to come into the kitchen to remove half the ceiling drywall, replace and paint the whole thing.

And it has smelled like wet drywall all weekend!

Jeff... I think this thread should turn into "What is Worse than No Power with 2 Kids!"

But that does stink about your ceiling though.... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Luckily were leaving here in a bit to go to Target to grab a few things, then dinner... obviously cant cook anything here....
