SO EXCITED - DCL!!

DH has agreed to a Disney Cruise and the best part is, we're going in April!!! Just a quick 4 nighter out of Port Canaveral on the Dream, but hey, 4 nights is better than no nights!!! So all you DCL folks out there, I need a recommendation. We're going to do a stateroom with a verandah because I love me a nice balcony. Any recommendations on which deck to book? I was thinking Deck 7 because the price is decent and there are no obstructed views, but I wanted to check with the experts since this will be my first Disney Cruise. Also, should I book a reservation at Palo?

yay WHoo hooo! How fantastic!! yay

I try to do as high up and in the middle of the ship as possible for the least amount of motion. I think deck 7 or 8 would be just fine. And YES! to Palo! It may be my favorite Disney Restaurant of them all. You're going to have a fantastic time!

Thanks, Kristen. I can't believe how excited I am. We were originally thinking May which would have given me a little more time to prepare, but my husband's company put a moratorium on vacations in May, so April it is!

Fun!!! We are staying on Deck 7 on the Fantasy in May and DCL has told me numerous times that it's a great deck with the same views as Deck, 8, 9, 10...We also have a balcony room and I cannot wait until my morning coffee out there!

CONGRATS! That is so exciting! I've stayed on deck 8 on the Dream and loved it. I've read good reviews for deck 7 as well. Also (if you're up for it) that's a great deck to take advantage of the stairs. I would regularly walk up the stairs to the pool deck or down to deck 3 to avoid the elevator crowds midship. The ceiling height is low on the decks so it's a lot less stairs than you'd think! Also, there are amazing art pieces on each landing to enjoy.

Definitely book Palo, can't wait to hear about your cruise!

I'm late to the party.

Congrats on your cruise biggrin clapping yay

I replied to your PM. Yes to Palo and I've stayed aft on the Dream twice and had no problems. The only time we really felt anything was when we backed into Castaway Cay. I had a 7a partial obstruction on the Fantasy and loved it. #8662 barely any obstruction and a few hundred less than a normal verandah. We had 8646 on the Dream and loved that as well. The aft elevators are great because they aren't that crowded and you can go right down to deck 3 and the animator's restaurant/ midship, or to 4 aft for the nightclubs, then easy access up to deck 11 for Cabanas or the pools/parties (sail away and pirate)
I'm so excited for you. I hope you both have an excellent time awesome

Still to be determined. The cruise is over at 8:00 AM on Thursday, and I'm trying to talk honey into one night and one day at the parks and then head home. Since we're driving home (the autotrain is sold out for the ride home), we could do it, but we'll be anxious to get home to the dog, so we'll see. If we do go, it would be an EPCOT day as that's DH's favorite park.

YAY FOR YOU!!! yay Just finishing a cruise myself I am now back to being the jealous one! Palo is definitely a great experience, and I will make a recommendation there. Dinners on the boat are already fabulous and where lunch is good, it tends to be similar most days except maybe the day before you return to port where they, at least on the 6 day, had a great seafood buffet luncheon. I say go for the brunch so as to be able to have a great Palo experience, but at the same time, not take away from any of your nightly experiences with the dining room, especially since on a 4 night, you only repeat 1 dining room, but it still has a different menu! Also, schedule it on a day at sea so as not to interfere with a port excursion.
Don't wait to book it when you get on ship. We booked it several weeks out on line when we did our advance check in paperwork. By the way, make sure to do that as soon as you can so you can get a good boarding time for the ship. They'll give you a boarding time and group number. Show up a good hour before that time. You can get checked in and beat the rush before they call your boarding number. Remember to practice your pageant wave for when they announce you onto the ship then make a beeline for the buffet! Oh, and make sure to pack a couple bottles of alcohol in your carry on as Disney allows that! biggrin We snagged a drink of the day in the souvenir cup then used it to mix our drinks in. Wink
If you haven't already, while booking a stateroom, check the layout of the ship and try to make sure you aren't above or below an area that may tend to be noisy such as a night club or a kid zone.
Where are you sailing to? Got any excursions lined up? Do tell! I am now living vicariously through all you who have vacation plans as I start to look ahead to summer 2014! awesome

All this is wonderful news! We're going on our first Disney Cruise in Sept. from the Port of Galveston which is less than an hour away! We'll be sailing on the Wonder stopping at Key West, Castaway Cay and the Bahamas! We took a cruise several years ago on Carnival and my husband didn't care for that too much. I was very surprised that he agreed to this cruise but being Disney how could he refuse! I'm glad to hear that y'all would book Palo. I was on the fence about that since it's an additional charge. But it's sounds like something we don't want to miss.

I wish we were going in April Kris! Have fun and please come back and tell us all about it!! clapping mickey
