We are going this fall with another family.
They don't want to plan anything! They said they want to leave it all up to us. I'm nervous!

ARe you all the "EXPERTS" as compared to the other family? If so Place to do a lot of your favorites and take so chances of somethings that will be "new" to all of you and you'll do fine!
We are going May 24th just my immediate family and again October 2012 with THREE other families and all the reservations, ADR, etc. are left on me so I know how you feel but I will be taking lots of notes on this upcomming trip!
I am typically the person who plans all the Disney trips. I have planned for groups of 7 and 10 people and everything went perfectly.
My one bit of advice, do not think that you will all want to do all the same things all the time. It's ok to split up and set meeting places/times.

couldn't agree more. Don't be afraid to split up. Also... Ask what type of food they like. That will help planning your ADR's.

Thank you! I absolutely agree on the food. In my group of 10, there are people with very limited food preferences. I stuck to places with buffets (so there are lots of choices) and places like Prime Time Cafe with there are more simple, mom-esque kind of meals. It worked beautifully!
My group typically went to the same parks on the same days but we split up, met for meals and/or parades, shows, fireworks. If you showed up, you ate, if you didn't show up, you were on your own. I made that very clear from the beginning. We also had a young one in the group who wanted pool time. So, that part of the group left the park earlier than we did and spent time at the pool. Everyone was happy!
I know I am a commando style visitor, I don't expect everyone to keep up with that, especially if they are not well-versed Disney addicts.

How long are you going for? I'd say beyond getting yourself a few ADRs and looking in advance at the park schedules to work out which parks are best to visit on which day (not necessarily the easiest task, I know!) then little other planning is really needed. Too much structure could take the fun out of it I do understand that you do need at least some sort of idea of where to go when though to be able to fit in everything you want to see/do.
Great advice everyone, thank you!
We are going for 10 days. It will be their first trip with their son, so I want to make sure it is memorable.
I plan on heading to their house with plans just so they know what is going on and I can explain to them.
I also keep telling them we don't have to be together 24/7 and they say they don't mind.
I agree..to calm your nerves print out menu's and show them just to get their input! But I am sure just the fact that you care enough to be nervous that you'll be great! Just ask us lots of questions because we love to "help"...i.e. plan your trip for you.
So true!!!

That right there is going to be your bit of salvation and sanity.

Headed to our friends house tonight, armed with some books! We are going to try and plan ADR's (I know, with only 4 months out, yikes!) and I'll report back to you all!

Enforce it at all costs!! Haha. Have some planned away times from each other. I think that will keep you sane, even if you all are friends.
Have fun!

So exciting!! Let us know what happens. I'm sure you'll have an awesome time. Have you traveled with this family before?

Oh boy! Well, tonight was....interesting!
I have stressed to them that it is okay that we can split up....the wife says that we don't have to but the husband agrees that is totally fine.
I told them we should made dinner reservations together and if they want to go, they can go. If they want to skip it, they can.
We went over all the parks, restaurants, etc. tonight. I think it will be really interesting. They are a lot of fun and our best friends. We have done a lot of trips with them but never for 10 days and of course nothing like Disney!
I was explaining MK to them and they said "Well, what if our son just wants to ride Dumbo all day? We will have to split up then." I told them they should just tell their son that there are more fun rides but they said, well, we know how he is.....sigh.
This is what we have figured out so far for ADRs. We do have toddlers so we didn't make many.
Sat. 9/10: Via Napoli at 6:20pm
Mon. 9/12: Sci-Fi Dine-In at 12:40pm
Boardwalk: Suggestions for dinner? We could also walk over to Epcot again for dinner. (But we will be at Epcot the next night again.)
Tue. 9/13: San Angel Inn at 6:30pm (We wanted to do Garden Grill but they only have 4pm every night and I'm not sure how that will work out. Any other good suggestions for toddlers at Epcot?)
Wed. 9/14: Chef Mickey's at 9:25am
Thu. 9/15: Magic Kingdom PM: Choice between Tony's or Liberty Tree Tavern. Or just do Counter Service. Suggestions?
Fri. 9/16: We are going to MNSSHP. Should we do dinner at MK?
Whew! That's it. This should be fun. I welcome any suggestions!
when I'm only able to get a 4pm dinner time, those are the days that I do a sit down breakfast meal... you might want to try that! there's tons of character breakfasts that a toddler would LOVE! in parks AND resorts..
and if you're lucky, you can get one in a park before the park's actual hours.. so you can get great pics of an empty park!
For Boardwalk... kinda depends. ESPN should be easy to get in. Has food everyone should enjoy.

We love ESPN Club. Surprisingly good food IMO.
As far as MNSSHP and dinner there. We've done TS there several times at Tony's Town Square to watch the parade and it was really awesome, but you have to get there early so you can get a table on the patio and then it eats up a bunch of the party. And of course Tony's isn't always the best food.
We'd probably do it because we've been to MNSSHP many times (and sometimes go twice in one trip), but if the others haven't been before I might skip it so they have time to see everything at the party.

Also Beaches and Cream on the Boardwalk would be good for little ones.
And I know the pain of planning the ADR's....we did it together with our inlaws for the first time this year and it was interesting.
