they have been filming this for the last 2 years. I wouldn't hold your breath for an october opening. I think it might be 3d? but the problem is getting permission to fly over disney.

Whit!! I thought this was something new as it was only in yesterday's news..For heavens sake...That's it..I'am booking myself on Concourse 2 ...Row 3....Seat 1...
I have a theory the resin disney take so long building stuff is to keep people coming back...... cause you know its news one day and four years till it opens they know you will change your mind in that time about it being your last trip
Ok..Had to reread it again...Filming starts next month..Here's a photo ( hopefully not upside down ) of the article..Is this ok Mr Hub.?...If not just wipe it clear please..
Maybe thats the filming over disneyland? when we were they in may last year the cast members were talking about it being updated and how filmed had started a year ago, I think it was also mentioned at d23, but I could be wrong.
I would be happy with a new print, sans the holes and lo def film.

So... Disney has to get permission to fly over Disney?
I guess this could be an FAA regulation, otherwise, Disnye is chasing its own tail.
its the FAA after 9/11 its a no fly zone
Disney requested the no-fly status for "the safety and security of its guests".
Would love to see an updated Soarin! As much as I love the current ride I love updates all the more!

Believe the Cali version of Soarin' is meant to include a fly-down Main Street toward the Castle as part of the finale. Think this is also the intention for Florida's version.
Yes, that's me in the profile pic...kudos for guessing the movie...
If it's true, then I'm all for it. I doubt they'll go the route of Star Tours with a random location each ride but a Soarin' all over the world or even Florida and not just California would be great. And...add more capacity, upgrade the video screens, then it's all good. But I do agree they won't have it finished by the end of the calendar year. Knowing how Disney took 4 years to add an expansion to the MK and 4 years for Avatarland, you'd have to think it'll be until at least 2-4 years from now until Soarin' is updated.
"All my life I wonder how it feels to pass a day, not above them but part of them.
And out there living in the sun, give me one day out there, all I ask is one to hold forever. Out there where they all live unaware, what I'd give, what I'd dare, just to live one day out there."
Not sure the "no fly zone" would be an issue here. HD & even 4K footage is readily accessible via a drone. I've been involved in a couple of shoots this past year, grabbing 4k footage with a quad-copter & a stripped down BlackMagic Cinema camera. With the right planning this would be a snap.
