is the space centre worth it

So I know we are all firstly disney fans and most seat inside the bubble at all times, I would happily do this for our 14 night stay but........ after spending 1,200 pound per person and flying 9 hours there are other things we just have to do, one is an afternoon at a shopping mall, usually after a water park morning. We spend 1-2 days at universal depending on how busy it is, as we are huge harry potter, Simpsons, marvel and jurassic park fans. In the past I have enjoyed a day at sea world and I loved going on the air boat and visiting down town and old town.....however

On this trip the other 3 of our group want to go to the kidded space centre........ I could care less about going. I'm not really a science fan and as its not in use anymore it just doesn't excite me, so my question is am I wrong? is it worth going to see? what happens there? I would rather go to animal kingdom for the day.......

I thought it was neat, but it was years since I've been there. We did the tour out to the launch site and just seeing how everything is put together was amazing

For us it's history, our childhood and all that magic and wonder. For our sons, who were in high school at the time, it was the possibilities of what could be. DH1 is a plane nut (inherited from my father who is a pilot) and he had the opportunity to meet the Capt of Apollo 13, James Lovell at a essay award ceremony, so it all just added on. But there were other music kids who couldn't understand why we went there other than to buy freeze dried food.

I remember being blown away by Kennedy Space Center when my parents took me there as a child. I would have put that experience on par with Disney itself at that point in my life. We took an excursion to Kennedy when our cruise stopped in Port Canaveral in 2011 and we were soooo disappointed. DH and I had spent 3 years living in Northern Virginia around the time that the Udvar-Hazy Center opened at Dulles airport as an extension of the Air & Space Museum and it is leaps and bounds better than Kennedy. Even the original Air & Space museum in downtown Washington is more interesting to me than Kennedy. The part at Kennedy where you ride out to the launch area and see the Apollo exhibit is cool, but everything else is just a shell of the awesomeness of Udvar-Hazy. If you expect to be in the DC area sometime, do that instead. The guided tour there is fantastic!

Is it worth it? In a word, no. Not if you aren't really enthusiastic about space anyway

I don't know about the "space centre" (it's probably in the UK somewhere), but you should check out ZapperZ's trip report that includes a visit to the Kennedy Space Center. wink

If you are a sci-fi/science/space geek (like me), then you definitely should go. If you aren't, then you will probably be pretty bored.

Send your friends off on their own and spend the day drinking your way around AK.

I've been to Kennedy Space Center on a non-Disney vacation to Florida. I don't really remember much personally but I do agree that if you're into space and science, you'll definitely appreciate it more. I've also been to the Air and Space Museum in DC and I prefer that over Kennedy because I think the one in DC has more to offer.

Personally, I like visiting the Space Center. I missed out on the launch pad tour last time I was there - some kinda payment strike being the reason for none of the buses working (and yes, I know it was the government shutdown!) so had to mooch around the Atlantis instead. They did a great job housing the shuttle but I miss being able to walk through one! I even went to the Astronaut Hall of Fame as the ticket included entry. It's getting on a bit now, there should be some kind of update as it is very 'ye olde worlde'. I want more rockets and space craft...more interaction and less open space! haha!

But I also agree with one of the comments above - if you're not into the space journey, then it won't be worth the entry cost, cos no matter how much you try to pretend to be interested, you just won't be...and the Atlantis exhibit won't be enough to stave off boredom.

KSC was interesting and great place to spend a day (very educational). The cost of the ticket is over $50 pp, check their website for details.

With that said, WDW has more than enough things to do to keep you guys fairly busy mickey . I am a die hard fan, and take every opportunity to visit the parks, resorts, Down Town Disney, etc.

Enjoy your visit and let us know how it went.

I would never want to go to any space center, especially on a Disney vacation. When my DH wants to do something educational on a vacation my answer is always "NO learning on vacation!" That being said, if I was one of a group of 4 and the 3 others wanted to do something I didn't, I would feel very rude saying I don't want to do that so you all need to do what I want to do.

I think you answered your own question, let them go to the space center and you go to animal kingdom until they're done.
