Space Mountain closed for refurbishment in 2009?

I see rumors everywhere. Has this been confirmed?

Nobody can confirm this that I've been able to find. Not Allears, not wdwmagic, not jim hill...and those are my trusted resources. There's been a lot of talk, but nothing definite.

That would be a bummer. They always close stuff at the times I go, since I go off-peak.

If the results are as good as the Spaceship Earth refurb, it might be worth the wait!

Um...how exactly would they improve Space Mountain? It's a roller coaster. I know they're thinking of putting in two-seater cars, but... confused

I went on the Space Mountain in Disneyland and I can only hope they make the WDW version as good as that.

It is smooth, has some great twists and turns and the music really adds to the experience.

I would hate to got to WDW and not be able to ride Space Mtn but I'll wait for a refurb if the result is like the Disneyland version.

I recently became a Walt Disney World Planner and the agent site we use has all the refurbishment schedules on it. So far, nothing about Space Mountain but I will keep my eyes open for everyone.

I've read in some places that this is officially confirmed. While I could live with no Space Mountain on a trip, it would certainly be a drag. Not as bad as no Splash Mountain though.

I could NOT live with no Space Mountain on a trip. That is the ultimate Disney World ride for me.

However, I have to say that it's strange of WDW to choose a date in the middle of their busy Spring Break season to start a refurb...

It is certainly increasing my desire to go sooner than later. I'd been thinking I'd put off a trip til October, but I've been really wanting to get in on the good deals right now and this is just one more thing that makes me want to go NOW.

Maybe they're doing it on purpose! They know people will come in the summer anyway, so give them a reason to come sooner!

Doubtful! They have plenty of crowds throughout March and April.

Then again...they ARE trying to shovel them in during Q1 of 09 via the steep discounts.
