Stupid Question

So I like taking pictures, but I really have no clue what I'm doing with my camera and all the settings. I just try to get away with leaving it on "Auto". Are there any settings in particular I should be using for anything in particular? Like if there was one thing I was going to take it off of "Auto" for, what would it be?

In my recent experience--and if you have a digital camera--I'd use the ISO function. No idea what ISO means, but it takes great pictures in low light!!

A rare exception to the rule that if you don't know what an option means, don't use it?

I don't know what any of the options mean, so I guess I should use them all.

I would suggest you go over to The Magic In Pixels to ask your question. They are very helpful over there.

I recently started using a SLR and have had to ask many questions over there. Auto definitely doesn't take pictures very good at night of things like Spaceship Earth, Spectromagic, etc, but they will help you by telling you what you need to do for certain conditions.

I think a lot of people start playing with the exposure time. It can allow you a lot of interesting effects, say when you're photographing fireworks. Maybe someone with some expertise can weigh in.
