Surprise party/Reveal

I will post pictures later today or tomorrow, but I will start with the story.

I had a friend text us both a few weeks ago asking if we want to go to a beef 'n beer (aka surprise party!!). The same friend rented firehouse banquet hall in his name for discount. Hubby call out of work a few days in a row, which threw a wrench into planning, which caused me to come up with suspicious stories on where I was while I was decorating/running around. I picked up all the food, then my friend, mom, and brother set up hall. Over the hill balloons, a decorated wheelchair of honor, chattering teeth on tables, and hemorrhoid cream in bathrooms. Rented an awesome jukebox-type set-up that was a hit!!!!

We agree that he will be designated driver for the night (that would later change), and off we go. Now this party is a month before his birthday, because he would get suspicious if it was closer to his actual day. We walk in, get the big "surprise" yell, cameras are flashing, and he says "why are people taking my picture?". Someone wishes him a happy birthday, he looks at date on his watch because he is confused about everything. He FINALLY caught on when someone said "this is your surprise bday party". So, yeah, I think he was surprised!!! It was very worth it!!!

Now he is to open the gag gifts... He gets the inflatable walker, the do-it-yourself prostate exam kit, the mugs/cups with old person sayings, and a 3 year subscription to AARP. Now the one we all have been waiting for... Thanks to MrHub & Scrappy for the idea, I had a red wrapped box on top with a gift tag on it that says "now that you're turning 50, what are you going to do??". He mutters "going to disney world, i don't know" and laughs it off, takes off box, and sees chest with pirate flag on it. He says "Arggg". He then opens the chest, reads shirt aloud "I'm going to Disney World... holy s**t, I'm going to Disney World!!!!!" He loved the binder I made up with the itenerary, the pirate picture from JeffC, and the fact that he's gonna have lunch with an Imagineer!!

This day was a lot of work, and a lot of stress keeping the secret, but it was soooooooo totally worth it!!!!! Thank you ALL for your input and ideas the past few weeks!!!!! I can't wait to tell you all how the trip goes!!!

I purposely made him were that lol It was either that one or "I'll have what the guy on the floor is having"

Thanks for all the nice responses... I was sooo stressed that day, but obviously had to play it cool. We did have a lot of fun, and it was all worth it!!! He is so excited to be finally going back to WDW!!!

You really did surprise him, he had no way to guess you would throw a surprise birthday party a month before his actual birth day. I might use this idea for my own dad's upcoming birthday, I plan to have aLos Angeles Limousine come to his door and take him away for a day, it's the least thing he will expect from us and I know he will enjoy the ride!
