I've been seeing ads for this restaurant: http://www.alcapones.com/
Is this something you'd find interesting or something you'd try? I think it MIGHT be fun, but I'm not sure if I'd subject a group to it...

I'm having trouble figuring out who their target market is. Maybe teenagers?
I started to make some smarmy remark about who I thought their target audience was but thought better of it in case we had any fans here:)
I find the idea entirely unappealing and moreover deplorable. America has a way of iconicizing some really awful people. It has gone on for centuries and this is a prime example.
Mind you I do find the history of 'the best and worst of humanity', as I like to call it, enthralling. That era of our history is very fascinating, so I do understand the appeal but I have a problem with the way the real history is often whitewashed leaving only the somewhat glamorous details.

Welcome to Disney's Hollywood Studios?
I doubt I would pick this restraurant but if someone else wanted to go I would go with them and give it a try.

Very true, it's not an uncommon occurrence.
I think it may well be a fun place to eat, and maybe the food's good. I just find it in poor taste, so won't be giving them my money. That's all it boils down to.

I definitely hear what you're saying. A lot of people are troubled by the glorification of the mob and it's very understandable. Imagine if you were a victim and someone was making out like the criminals were heroic, I could see why you wouldn't want to encourage that paradigm.
I'm a little more comfortable with the historical theme I guess. I think it's more celebrating the myth than anything real. I definitely wouldn't want to encourage real mobsters, but hopefully Al Capone isn't making any money off of it so I can see the other perspective as well.
This is the sort of thing that works well in Las Vegas, because of its mob history, but in Florida? Why? With all the other restaurants there are in the world, it wouldn't be my choice.

We're just not all that into that era of history as it is. I have no problem with doing a historically-set theme for a restaurant, but we couldn't care less about the prohibition-into-depression mobster era. So, it wouldn't tickle our fancy.
I wouldn't mind finding a fun murder-mystery restaurant in Florida, though. That might be fun.

I can only please one person per day. Today isn't your day... tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Brings up a good point. Would you or Brad enjoy a murder-mystery (or similarly themed restaurant) based on a real murderer? I would have less of an issue with Al Capone's if not for the fact that they very deliberately and specifically idolize Capone. I still would not likely go if it were simply a mob-themed eatery, but that's just me. I've known people that went out of their way to dine at REAL mob restaurants like it's a tourist attraction. To each their own.

It's very strange how people think that's fun to frequent a mob own place. It's not clear to me what's so appealing about it. I'd have much more problem with that than the Al Capone's place. I'd rather the restaurant just possibly be in poor taste than actively supporting criminals.
While I definitely wouldn't want to do a murder-mystery with a real person, I think a fake one would be pretty fun.
DW and I have wanted to catch a murder-mystery dinner show for some time, but have yet to.

Me too. I suspect I'll either love it or think it's totally weird. Probably nothing in the middle.
