Here are a few of my thoughts about staying at Disney's Old Key West.
1. The property is HUGE. To me it is completely worth it for me to spend the extra points to get a room near the hospitality house. I'm not a big fan of having to use internal bus systems at resorts. I like to be near the center of the action.
2. The majority of the buildings do not have elevators, so if anyone in your part has mobility issues be sure to make that known ahead of time. We arrived at 10:30 at night and the resort was sold out of all but 1 Studio far away from the Hospitality House, and we were supposed to have a 1 Bedroom Preferred. I ended up leaving my scooter outside plugged in on the ground level overnight, and climbing up to the third floor. Luckily for me it was possible. If I hadn't been able to do the stairs though I would have been pretty upset.
3. The staff purposely moves at a slower, more relaxed pace to give guests that laid back Key West vibe. They are also super friendly.
4. The pool area is huge with lots of little nooks and crannies designed into the landscaping.
5. It takes about 15-20 minutes on the boat to get to Disney Springs, and it's a nice little trip.
6. I really enjoyed the breakfast quiche from Good's Food To Go. Sadly I didn't get to try the other restaurants.
7. The rooms are really spacious and I felt like I could have entertained in the 1 bedroom. There was a lot of family space.
I wouldn't mind staying here again if I could know that I would have a ground floor room near the hospitality house. It's never going to be my first choice though.
