Tortuga Tavern

There's a new DFB post on the Tortuga Tavern Menu (Tortuga Tavern is what used to be El Pirata y El Perico). Looks like the menu is identical, which is a tad disappointing. What do you think of the name change? Have you ever eaten here? It was hardly ever open did you even know it was there?

It was never open any of the times we were there. Seems kinda dumb. I wish they served something more piratey. Whatever that is. I'm not sure I consider tacos pirate-foods, but I guess the comment on the DFB abuot the small amount of cooking space explains the offering.

Not something I'd probably try either way.

I've heard they're changing it up soon, though. It looked to be open the other day. I think they're re-theming it to get a little bump in business from POTC4, yes? Tortuga's where Jack always went for a drink, to recruit, to get into mischief...hopefully, they'll do a Caribbean spin on the menu - jerk chicken and the like.

Sign looks like the same sign with the text replaced, isn't it?

I always wanted to try El Pirata but it was ALWAYS closed when I went there. I never made it. I always heard the tacos there were good though..is this no longer the case?

The vegetarian tacos were rubbish.

Yeah -- I never really understood why this was Mexican food. I guess the NAME was Mexican, but... that's it, right?

Would love to see a Caribbean spin to the menu! YUM!

That's what it looks like. Crafty Disney Imagineers. Recycling at its finest. I love it. I love how they take old stuff and make it new.

I was able to eat there in 2009. The food was mediocre but the cast members were incredible! There was a cast member out front showing guests the menu and we asked him what the vegetarian options were. He said, in a piratey voice, "Arrg, here there be many fine offerings, but elsewhere, there be pretty much veggie burgers".

Classic! I wouldn't mind the menu change so long as there are still good veggie options.

I love that! Thanks so much for sharing that memory, JP. It really is the little things that make the difference, isn't it?

That was my thought as well..they've been known to gobble them down while taking swigs of rum!

I think I ate there once. Is this the place directly across from POTC?

Yes - that's the one. I'll be anxious to hear if they change anything up to promote the newest film. I really think that's where they're going with this. Remember how hot ANYTHING to do with pirates was during the time that the 1st three were being filmed/released?

YES! Perhaps they will turn Johnny into a vampire pirate to keep with the times.
