TOT 10 miler vs W&D Half

I need some advice from any runDisney participants. After running our very first 5K at the Wine and Dine Half Marathon weekend this past November, my husband and I are hoping to step up our game this fall. We are trying to decide between running the Tower of Terror 10 Miler run in October or the Wine and Dine half in November.
I really want to go to MNSSHP which we could do if we did TOT however i'm not a big fan of the course. The main reason I want to run is to run through the parks and you don't really seem to do that. The W&D course goes through AK, HS, and Epcot so i'm in love with that course but no halloween party sad

Has anyone ran either race? Which one do you prefer and why? Is there a big difference in weather between the beginning of October and mid November?

I haven't run either of them, but the Wine and Dine you do get an after party still! Smile I love the idea of that one!

The TOT has an after party too. But I like the sound of the W&D one better because of all the different foods awesome

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too....I think the Expedition Everest one looks really cool too, but doubt I'll end up doing that one.

I would love to do that one too! I like how it's not just running. The obstacle course and scavenger hunt would be cool. I doubt I'll ever do that one either. Unfortunately May is not a good time for me to take off work sad

Hi Spook,
Do you know what date the food and wine festival Run Disney event is? I looked on the Run Disney site and they are still showing the 2012 dates/event. I am interested because we may be in Disney in November and would like to try the 5K. How did you find it? We thought it would be a good intro and then maybe do a half marathon in 2014/15!!!

Though the event pages don't seem to be up to date yet the volunteer page for the Wine & Dine Does! Here is what it says:

http://www.rundisney.com/volunteer/wine-and-dine-half-marathon/

Expo & Packet Pick Up - Friday, November 8 " Saturday, November 9, 2013
Disney's Kids' Races - Saturday, November 9, 2013
Family Fun Run 5K - Saturday, November 9, 2013
Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon - Saturday, November 9, 2013

They should have the W&D main Page updated soon. It's odd that it hasn't been done yet, however the F&W Festival dates were just announced, so they may be holding back.

The 5K was fantastic! We had the same thinking as you, using the 5K as an intro. Have you done any running before? This was our first and now we want to try the half. The hard part is deciding which one confused

I haven't really done any running before, but I am fairly fit as I am a dance teacher. I want to start gentle running as I have just finished treatment for breast cancer and I have been told by consultants that if you do 150 mins of moderate exercise each week, you reduce your chance of the cancer coming back by 50% ! I think I would find that I would get bored with running unless I have a goal and reward to aim for. I would LOVE to do the princess half marathon in the future but at the moment I think I would only be able to run about 1k so I will have to build up slowly. I can't wait to get started but we have snow here at the moment so will have to wait waiting
I am so glad that you enjoyed the 5k. It has made me really want to do a RunDisney 5k. It is a difficult decision for you to chose which event you want to do. If I was in your position I am not sure which one I would pick either, although I think I would like to do the one that with the most interesting route. biggrin

I think you should go with the Wine & Dine, if for no other reason than you get to run past more interesting stuff. LoL... I think having that visual weenie drawing you forward really helps.

Miss Mikki- I am the same, I can't just run for fitness. I run for Disney only biggrin We have snow here too though so I haven't been running. Actually, I haven't ran since the 5K in November eek I've got time though. I've heard that the Jeff Galloway training programs that they post for each race on the runDisney site are very effective so I'm going to try that when it comes out.
Good luck on your training. If you can beat cancer you can do anything awesome

Kristen K- I'm definatly leaning towards the W&D for the course and afterparty! Pretty much the only thing holding me back is that for the past couple years I've been telling myself that next trip is going to include the Halloween party and it never does. I've never been there at that time of year and I really want to dress up at the park!

Spook, I think the last MNSSHP is usually around 2nd November (?) and the Marathon is 8th November, so if you went to Disney for a week long vacation it would be possible to do both. Only problem could be all the tempting disney cupcakes etc. before the run!!!

We ran the wine and dine half last year and we are there during the tower of terror this year. It was a great experience. Lots of friendly people and the parks look great at night. It's very very busy, there is still a lot of boring road running but you do get to run down through Osborne lights etc. we didn't stay for the after party, it was very busy and we were so tired. One thing I will say is that they are very expensive. That's what's putting me off the 10 miler.$100 for a race is a lot, the medals are cooool though mickey
