The tough decision to cancel our September trip

Well, after much debate and consideration, we've decided we will have to cancel our trip to WDW in September. Though I think I will use the term "defer". it's a little less painful....

With the neck surgery last December, the shoulder surgery this past Tuesday, and the upcoming knee surgery, it's reached the impractical stage and I just can't justify going now with so many restrictions.

The shoulder surgeon told me on Wednesday that I need to wait a minimum of 4 weeks before I can have the knee surgery, and he would recommend 6. That would put the knee surgery towards the latter part of July - and not really enough time between then and September to complete the physical therapy and be able to walk around for 14+ hours a day for 8 days.

Oh well. We decided to re-plan for late April/early May 2012, our second favorite time of year to go. By then, I should be free of all restrictions from everything, and able to ride everything to my heart's content mickey

I am sorry about cancelling the trip though but it sounds like you know that it would be tough on you and you'll enjoy your trip more next year.

Just make up for it by putting a dent in the inventory on Disneyshopping.com

Sorry to hear that Jeff sad But cheer up the new date will be here before you know it. And it really is better to give those surgeries time to heal to the doctors satisfaction. It is for your own good, and I really believe deep down you know that. So good decision Jeff.

Sorry to hear that Jeff. But just think of the kind of trip you can have then, Whoooooo Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!. I say we start planning it NOW! Lets see, okay you will diffenitly need a wishes cruise. Maybe the jungle trek thing have now in the AK. Day at the spa maybe, nice massage. Maybe even book this trip for 2 weeks to make up for some time missed. I'm still thinking..........................

Scrappy says you're looking at it all wrong and you need to move the trip up and postpone the knee surgery and still goin May. She says you need a stay in the Poly where you can just relax on the beach or by the pool, watch the fireworks from the beach at night. Have some deliciuos meals, you would be close enough to MK and be at a monorail resort the a wheel chair or one of those motorized scooters would not be a problem at all! still thinking............

That's exactly what I was thinking....Can't forget about our cupcake crawl....Don't you just feel like mr.popular....everyone is wanting you to reschedule for when they go.....think about it....you could go with us and you and brooklin can duke it out for the opening ceremony...lol

Sorry to hear you had to change plans, but I'd rather wait a little longer and get to do whatever I want. Plus now you have a treat at the end of all your hassles.

Sorry to hear you had to reschedule but it's sounds like the right decision. May will be here so fast and you will will get to have a really awesome trip that you can truly (and healthy..ly, LoL.) enjoy!

Oh, Jeff - I'm so sorry! My heart just aches for you both. I hope that you can put the time to good use healing, though! I was a little concerned that you were going to be disappointed with all of the restrictions. Here's to working your plan! And maybe you can make it a little longer, or do some really wonderful extra stuff, since you'll have more time to plan/save. I hope it goes by fast fast fast for you. mickey

I promise to do anything you want to do in September and video it so you can pretend you were with us.
But I agree think of the extra time to plan and think and put more money aside for May.

Bummer, but giving yourself time to heal makes sense. You'll make it to May sooner than you think.

mrhub, i like the way you think! Maybe i can use the sympathy card and add the disney dream! i did think about putting off the knee surgery, but it hurts soooooo much and i would do more damage...and we know my adult ADD would kick in after sitting at the beach for 5 minutes waiting

jess and mase make a great case for nov - the cupcake crawl and i get to steal the little one and possibly realize my rope drop fantasy!

i'm so mad because we just got under 100 days, which is a big milestone....$!#^&

oh well, thanks for the support and ideas. i think i need to buy something from disneyshopping.com..... biggrin

I took the collective advice and decided I needed to buy something to lift my spirits. The Disney gods must have been listening, because I found THIS today at a yard sale!

It fits in nicely with the ever-growing collection in the Disney room....

oh Jeff darling, Destination Florida travel agency does chatroll contests, if you go on and answer questions correctly they send you free things, just small but I have a few new snowglobes to add to my collection, ears, autographed photos and what not

Jeff, your room is very similar to mine although you have much cooler stuff in yours. I would love to see the rest of the room. It even looks as though the paint color is the same as mine. I call mine my scrapbook room instead of the disney room though. I LOVE that phone!
As for rescheduling your trip...we have two trips coming up, one in October which is booked and one in January still waiting to be able to book. I kniw October would not give you much more time to heal but maybe January. Anyway, we have an Illuminations Cruise booked for the October trip and plan to book a Wishes Cruise for January. If you would just happen to be there at the same time, I known there will be two open seats on both cruises. Neither one would be risky to your healing process. (unless Coleen would happen to be our captain).

I love your Disney room. Is that a Mickey Mouse nutcracker? I'm sorry you had to delay your trip but it sounds like it would be for the best. You certainly don't want to have any set backs if you go too soon and not allow yourself enough time to heal.
