Traveling with the Grandkids

For those of you that have Grandkids, do you take them to Disney? If so, what are the methods to the madness? laugh

My mom had my kids on a rotational schedule, she never took more than one of them at a time (physically she wouldn't have been able to keep up) and they each got a turn. When Katie was born (she's my handful) my mom would take me with her turn so that I could wrangle her. Also the kids all had to be out of diapers to be able to go.

I can't wait until I get a chance to pass on my love of Disney to the grands... I've got quite a few years before we're there though. However I would love to hear your tips right now!

Never had any problems with taking our grandchildren. It's more fun now that they are old enough to take me along with my great grandchildren.

My daughter and son-in-law are DVC members as well with more points than I do, SO they take them, easy as pie.

Took our girls, one son-in-law and two grandsons (5 years and 6 months) about three years ago. We rented a two bedroom, DVC rental at Jumbo House. The rental was great it had a kitchen and living area with two balconies over looking the Savana. We saw tons of animals from our room. We flew from St. Louis and rented a van. In addition we rented a wonderful stroller that was delivered and picked up from our resort. Our 5 year old grandson was slightly small for some of the rides, in which I kept him entertained while the adults did those rides. We had to play tag team with our 6 month grandson also. It took us much longer to do anything with the size of our group group and infant in tow. I can honestly say I did not enjoy Disney to its fullest because we were traveling with a 6 month old. I think I enjoyed watching our son -in-law the most, it was his first time. It was hot, crowded and I was ever villigant at keeping track of our grandkids. We ended up driving to all the parks because it saved a lot of time (Animal Kingdom Lodge is away from everything) and we were toting a stroller around. If I had it to do over again maybe I would of waited a couple of years. Now we have a 8 year old, soon to be 4 year old and 4 month old grandson. I am currently starting to plan our first time ever, adults only trip, but I'm already thinking about a family trip about 5 years from now. I wish I could book that far in the future and start paying it off. Keep in mind we picked up the tab for the last trip for everyone. Our unmarried youngest daughter wanted to bring her boyfriend (now husband) and I told her not until the ring was on the finger and the I dos were said! gaah

Why not open up a savings account specifically for the future family trip & start putting money aside for it now?

I'll have to figure out what we might spend and devide it by 60 months and start saving.

What a great idea! Be sure to figure in a couple of "special" events and your savings should be a breeze!
