Two Grownups and a Baby!

Okay, so I know this is wdw for grownups, but we can't help it. Our two year old demands that we take her along. We used to go on our own and were big fans. We wanted to take a vacation and couldn't think of a better place to go. We figure if we don't go now we'll have to wait even longer if another one comes along. We're also thrilled to see what our daughter thinks about it. She talks about it all the time...
Here's my question. Anyone have suggestions on transportation while there as well as the trip from the airport? We want her to be safe but we love the public transportation. How do others do it? Do you bring a car seat for the ride from the airport? Any reasons to stick with a car? It seems like a huge pain to drive, park, carseats, hot cars, hike to the park, etc... Thanks for any and all advice...

Hi and welcome to WDWFG, glad you found us. Personally from the airport the easiest for the wife and I is Disney's Magical Express, can you say free & easy and no worries.I don't think car seats are even allowed to be used on any Disney transportation method, whether it be boat, bus, monorail, or train and all strollers have to be folded when brought on board. Even when we have driven rather than flown, we use the busses and our car has stayed in the resort parking lot except for an occasional quick trip off property to go to a store or restaurant.

Hey Jerry, welcome to WDWFG!

I can understand that the two year old isn't signing off on being left behind. It will be really interesting to see how someone who's used to going alone finds it with kids. We may be facing the same thing ourselves in the future.

I'm a big car advocate but I'm in the minority. We find the time savings with the car is worth the extra expense and with a 2 year old I'd think that would be even more true. That's just my opinion though.

Hi and Welcome! You'll find that a few of us have cleverly hidden small children, too Smile But we still like to talk about grownup stuff as well, and memories of our trips pre-kids or sans kids. But don't worry about mentioning your 2 year old - you definitely aren't alone.

This is an EXCELLENT point, and one that most don't think of. Since your child is 2, you'll have to buy him/her a plane seat anyway. I would just lug the car seat and plan to rent a car. Then on property, maybe use a hybrid approach - some car, some bus. I know it's inconvenient, and extra expense, but I think you are right about the safety issue, expecially since the Magical Express covers some major highway miles between MCO and the Resort. On the other hand, if they'll allow the car seat and they use safety belts on the Magical Express, you might consider it. Maybe give Disney a call?

On property, however, we've had both of our kiddoes (ages 6 and 1) on the buses with no safety seats and no real fear.

Hope this helps and good luck! When is your trip planned?

Hey! Welcome! welcome

So far you have a public transportation proponent, a car proponent, and a both proponent! I'm going to agree with both as well. Maybe when you go to Magic Kingdom, take public transportation since it's so much easier than parking in the MK lot and hiking into the park. Then, if you're popping over to another resort for a meal, take the car. I think that on your first trip with Kid #1 it might be best to have all options open to you just in case mickey

So, when are you going? Where are you staying?

Hi! Welcome welcome! I have a kid too who insists that we take him along..although he's 16 months has no real opinion..it's more of a we can't wait to see how he acts sort of thing! Haha.

I am going to say something I usually wouldn't..but maybe rent a car. I am usually 100% pro Disney transport but this trip I am preparing for anything. Since we drive it's not going to be a problem popping in and out of the car if we need it. Maybe he'll actually sleep a little too! (Wishful thinking). But we also plan on taking the buses to MK and maybe elsewhere if he does OK on them.

Hi Jerry and welcome to WDWFG! I'm with dsoup on this one, but we are also in the minority. We only flew once. We drive from PA. but dont take children anymore and never had to take a car seat other then this past June when we took the whole family, (2 sons, wives and 1 granddaughter who was 20 months old). The kids flew down and took a car seat with them, then rented a car for a day since they went down 2 days early, (they went to that "other" park).
