The Ultimate Theme Resort..

You know it's kinda funny but when we went our first WDW vacation, and stayed at CBR, I didn't exactly feel I was in the Caribbean..But on our second trip and staying at POFQ..Wow..There was this feeling of New Orleans..A little bit bit of jazz and southern hospitality..But then came PORS..Well hush my mouth Scarlet..I've arrived at my plantation..Those Mansion buildings did it for me...I'll never forget walking up towards Parterre Place, pass the fountain, up that staircase, I swear I was Rhett Butler..( well not as good looking as Clark ) ...Anyway, I have visited other resorts and my first impressions of AKL were pretty awesome, but when we walked thro ( and this is where I feel it just didn't kiss me ) The Polynesian Resort, it did nothing for me..Likewise The Contemporary Resort...So I'am really anxious to see what feeling I get when we arrive at WL...How do resorts in a theme way connect with you.?Do you immerse yourself in the atmosphere, or do you just take it all in and admire the theme...Which resort have you stayed at and fell in love with the complete theme thing..?

Well I've only been to 1 resort but in my personal opinion I never need to stay anywhere else because I'm home and that's PORS I completely agree with you on the theme of this resort it affects me so much that today whilst I was casually doing my weekly shop around sainsburys out of nowhere "I sing because I'm happy" came into my head (anybody who has done a morning coffee run around ok man island at PORS should know exactly what I'm talking about!!!!!)

So I think you could say I've soaked up so much of the theme it came all the way across the pond back with me!!!!

I like the hustle and bustle of the Boardwalk area. I also really like the atmosphere of the Poly.

LOL..Know what you mean..We have had 3 out of 5 vacations at PORS...The only reason we are going to WL this year was the 40% off making it cheaper than going to PORS...

I've gotta say I was shocked at the price difference from 2013 to 2014 I nearly fell off my seat!!! My perk was the dining plan however if we hadn't booked when we had I think we would have gone with the same offer you have! Definitely broke the bank this year!!!!!

Ill do you a recording of the songs around the pool to make you feel at home haha

PORS is also a wonderful resort. The walk to the main building in the morning was so scenic. We would usually grab breakfast there and then fill our Disney mugs with coffee and sit by the main pool. So relaxing and enjoyable. awesome

I love the Polynesian but Wilderness Lodge.. wow! I love the rustic feel anyway and when you walk in there you feel you are near Yellowstone Park and should see bears running around outside. AKL - it's breathtaking as well but didn't give me the "wow" factor that WL did. Contemporary... it didn't do anything for me really. It's kinda cool looking inside but cold. But the Poly, I would stay there all the time. I felt like I was in a tropical paradise. I haven't stayed at the PORS, but it sounds awesome. This Oct. when we go back, I'm going to go over there and check it out.

I can honestly say that I really enjoy them all for their own personal thematic charms. Some however "take me away" more than others. Polynesian to me is one that really takes me away, and the most "fairy tale" of them for me is the Grand Floridian - I didn't think that it would be until I stayed there though. I had never felt more in the magic then on that trip.

We love the Wilderness. It feels like you are at Yellowstone park. We love the outdoors and hiking so this resort is right up our alley. When you walk into the lobby it just takes your breath away. I feel very at home here. One of our other favorites is the Polynesian but alas we can not usually afford it. We love the tropical theme and find it very relaxing. I have to say the Contemporary did nothing for me I did not understand the appeal.

So far at the only two resorts I've stayed in, I think Pop Century has a great theme. The eye catching large figures of toys, electronics are prevalent with a lot of bright colors, as well. Plus how sick is it to see a bowling pin shaped pool where every hotel you visit always an elliptical or rectangular shaped pool?

I think for future resorts, I definitely have AKL on my bucket list with the African safari theme but also Polynesian. From pics and videos, it definitely has that Hawaiian feel like it's paradise. I've been Hawaii once as a kid but I couldn't deny how relaxing and warm the place was.

Well, none of the Value resorts do it for me - including AOA. We stopped inside and it just doesn't excite me. I've stayed at all values and they don't thrill me, but it's better than staying off property!

I don't really care for AKL or the Contemporary. The Contemporary is just too industrial and concrete. Their theme park views also include a very lit up parking lot - which doesn't seem magical to me. The AKL tried to copy WL, but just add in animals. Meh.

Resort theming I love: WL, Poly, GF, BW, BC. WL feels like a great lodge somewhere out West, the lobby is absolutely incredible. The Poly is very tropical and romantic. I love the atmosphere and laid back attitude of the place. The BW theming is wonderful and the activities going on are very exciting. The GF speaks for itself. It's beautiful!

I agree with Kristen. I am starting to discover all of the resorts have their own little charms to them. The Poly always has been and I imagine always will be our number 1. I love everything about it. The theme is so relaxing and beautiful. I love sitting on a bench drinking my coffee watching the sunrise. I love being on our balcony hearing the sounds of the Magic Kingdom. Often we are back to our room in time to enjoy both the music from the last luau of the evening as well as watching the Electrical Water Pageant. One can not help but smile when greeted by the CM's with a smile and a Aloha! Even though we are DVC members, the Poly is where we feel most at "home".

We have stayed at quite a few different resorts through the years. We have stayed at Animal Kingdom in both Jambo House and Kidani Village. We have also stayed at the Beach Club, the Boardwalk, Saratoga Springs, the Contemporary, the Grand Floridian, the Caribbean Beach Resort, and the Allstars Movie Resort.

I have discovered that even resorts that I think I would have no interest in, end up having things I like about them. Although I do not care for the theme of the Contemporary I did discover that it is about the best resort you can stay in in July. It was GREAT to come out of the hot parks and board the monorail. Even greater, to get out of the monorail inside the Contemporary and walk to our room while always being inside in the AC.

We are starting to try to branch out a bit more. So, we will be staying at Bay Lake Tower in May followed by the villas at the Grand Floridian in Nov/Dec. Our plans for now though will have us back to our beloved Poly in January.

See..There you go...That's what I love about WDW...Everyone has their own favourites..There's not one outright winner..Where as some people love CR. I found it to be rather cold and un disney like...Some think the GF is the most fairy like, yet to me it's way too posh and my impression is there's a Hush sign round every corner with " No Kids Running " Posters...LOL..

~ponders~ Okay, see, I'm so not into the too-posh thing, but I have to wonder how much trouble my DH and I would get into if we opted to run like kids. biggrin Yeah, I can totally embrace my immature self LOL! I mean, isn't WDW the place where we get to do that? wink

Wilderness Lodge is our favorite...it just seems to be in another place and time. However, we also have enjoyed the atmosphere of Boardwalk, the escape of Coronado Springs, the time travel of PORS, and the feeling of New Orleans at POFQ. Although we've enjoyed staying at All-Stars and POP, we don't find them the same feeling of immersion as we do at the above mentioned. All-Stars and POP are fun and each visit to one of them has offered lots of different things to see and do.

We weren't uber fond of CBR just because, like you said, it didn't really transport me to the Caribbean. It gave us less awe and more "meh". From the resorts I've visited, BW, AKL, and Poly have to top the list for theming for me.

We've stayed in a few mod & deluxe, but ended up going back to the all-stars. I know it's a little weird. We like heavy fun/Disney theming, so the Pop, AA, and all-stars are good for us. (Provided it's not school vacation season! laugh )

I actually didn't like the Contemporary. Not my aesthetic, mostly. I thought the rooms looked like the inside of an envelope. Transport was amazing though. The Poly was cool, but I missed the Pop's theming. A few of the moderate pools are amazing, which tempts me to visit them again; but always with the best of intentions ... We never make it in the pool.

You know it's funny you should say it was relaxing by the Main pool...Last visit in 2012 we were at Magnolia Terrace therefore took the bridge at the main pool to get to the food court ( in the past visits we were in Parterre Place and used the bridge further down the Sassagoula ) But the noise from a DJ playing music was unbearable..I've never heard it so loud..Then again in all my three stays ( 42 days ) We never once used the Main pool..Always the little pools..

I believe the music started after 10am, so we were always there between 8:30 and 10 in the morning - at that time it was peaceful.

Our first "couple" trip was All-Star Music. The "theme" was established on the Disney Transportation from the airport with YOUNG teams from the Dominican Republic with very loud and high pitched-voices (we are both music teachers) and my husband kept saying something about "I hope they stay at Sports." They did but our room was facing the pool and while we "thought" that would be lovely, the pool apparently doesn't ever close and the kids swim ALL the time. So we never really had quiet. (There is also the evening movie that we both knew and could hear all of it, so we starting reciting lines....) waiting

Next trips with adult sons was at POPs (NOT pool side)...okay, but we are both tall and double beds...eh. It is brightly themed and my husband pointed out that we actually just sleep there, so it's not worth THAT much.

Second trip was Coronado and we were waaaaaaaay in the back, so each time we wanted something in the main place, like food, it was a hike. It is also a convention center, so while we were baking in the heat of June, there were all these people with drinks wearing suits and ties (and heals if ladies). I am sure we were having a better time, but it was slightly weird. DS2 said to think of it as a CM costume that you see no where else. eek

This time POFQ and sticking to it....unless we get the discount and then PORS...... crossfingers
