Universal Orlando Permanently Changes Dragon Challenge Roller Coaster After Injuries

Just saw this over at The Disney Blog:

Universal Orlando has permanently changed the nature of one of its most popular attractions after a pair of guest injuries on the roller coaster. Dragon Challenge, formerly Dueling Dragons, will never duel again. Instead it will become a chase with cars being dispatched so that they no longer pass close to each other.

This was one of my favorite rides. Though I would hate to be hit my flying objects from the other side!

The near misses were a major part of the ride. I can't believe a few idiots have spoilt it for everyone.

I'm pretty bummed to hear this. That was a really unique feature of the ride that I am saddened that I am going to miss out on.

No kidding. This is (or was) my favorite ride at Universal.

The last time we went to Universal, it was super-quiet, and we rode this 5 times in a row without waiting, switching back and forth between tracks. We got the front seat each time too. From a thrill perspetive, the dueling coaster near miss was really cool.

I dont think it will be as fun without that.

The original article in the Sentinel brings up a really good point; it's interesting that no injuries have been cited before recently, when the coaster has been in operation since 1999. I hope whoever here rides it first with the modifications comes back and tells us how it is now.

I think I must have missed it..what was the accident that happened?? Did someone throw something?

Was this the ride that was in Harry Potter-ville?

Bella, This was the Duelling Dragons and is now the Dragon Challenge as part or WizWoHaPo. As far as I can tell, someone on one train threw things at the other train. I don't think it's ever happened before and then it happened twice in a few days.

Oh, I heard it was accidental (actually, I read it somewhere...), like coins dropping out of people's pockets...I've also heard that SOMEONE LOST AN EYE!

Anyway, I LOVE this ride and the near misses were really fun...I don't think I'd pass on riding it just because of that, though...

No kidding!! This makes me seriously sad. I STILL haven't been to "Harry Potter Land" yet, though! sarcastic laugh It's unfortunate that this ride will be a bit lame going forward.

Well, I was really sad to hear that it was changed cause I didn't get to experience the ride the way it was meant to be... It's still a very fun coaster but in a way it is just that now. The whole idea was the tandem cars and without that.. We still enjoyed it, rode it about 4 times in fact!

I'm SO upset to hear this! This became one of my favorite rides of all time after riding it about 10 times when I was at Universal back in 2002 and I have been raving about it ever since! It sucks when a couple of idiots ruin it for everyone Sad
