Variations In Resort Service

I've had varying degrees of luck with the service at the resorts, but I haven't noticed that it has too much to do with the resort in particular. Would you guys say some resorts have better cast members than others?

In my limited experience I've certainly found that the moderates do not have the same quality of service as the deluxes.

I think Deluxe resorts almost ALWAYS have top notch service.

I'd say other than that though, it's a crap-shoot. I've had fantastic and sub-par service in the same hotel. Although I guess the second time I was staying in the Villas so it's not exactly the same, but close enough!

You know, I've had varying service everywhere I've stayed. I wonder how Disney's "promotion" system works when it comes to this. Do cast members start out in value resorts and move up the chain to deluxe resorts? Does anyone ever start in a deluxe and get "promoted" to a value? No clue.

I've stayed in Value, Moderate, Deluxe, and now DVC resorts. I certainly see a bit of a difference between Value/Moderate versus Deluxe/DVC. I definitely notice that the cast members are way more friendly and personable at the DVC resorts, and take time to entertain you if they're not busy, and especially if you're into pins. They certainly are very loaded with cast lanyard pins if you catch them at the start of their shift (at least the ones at SSR and OKW).

Zz.

That's a great question that I've never thought about before. Do CMs ever "start" in a Deluxe?

I know of a CM whose first gig was attractions at MK and moved right from that to registration at the Polynesian, so I don't think there is any resort job 'pecking-order'.

Thanks for the response. That's interesting. I wonder if the training is just different based on more sophisticated hotel management, or if it truly is all the same and it depends on each individual's experience.

To be honest, it's hard to say which ones are the better job. I'm not sure which "crowd" would be the most pleasant to deal with. The people who can afford Deluxes are probably more likely to be...shall we say...demanding? So while it may be better for the guest if the best CMs are at the Deluxes, it may not be best for the CM.
