Video Workout and Yoga Suggestions

As we head into the hot hot (and rainy!) summer, I'm looking for some workouts that we can do at home. I'd like to find some good cardio workouts (low impact preferred) as well as some yoga and pilates. Do you have any workouts that you love and can recommend?

At the gym I work at we preach about non impact excersises at home! Great calorie burning and cutting the risk of injury in half. There are a few that I think are great. The top of the list is step aerobics. You only need a step.. Can be a stair, or you can buy an aerobic step from any sport or excersises store. 30 mins and you can burn around 400 calories. Left leg up- right leg up. Left leg down- right leg down. You can switch it up, any combination of up down works. Biking, fast walking, swimming, and kick boxing (not necessarily hitting something) but for 3 mins try to punch and throw kicks while rocking on the balls of your feet and you will feel an intense burn!

As for the yoga, when my girlfriend gets home I will have her post. She actually teaches yoga classes! I personally love yoga. I know many guys think it's not for them but after a full class my back feels so good and I feel so flexible.

I think it's great you are looking to do cardio, it is great for the body! And who doesn't like the feeling of seeing results! If you have any other questions please feel free to ask, I love answering questions. Good luck Big smile

I love doing yoga, but I can take it as a class here in college. It really relaxes me and gives me a good stretch. I guess the best way to get into it is to go to a local class. From there you can probably figure out what you like and what you don't.

Good morning. As far as low impact aerobics goes, I can't say enough good things about Leslie Sansone's walk at home DVDs. They are low impact aerobics for people with 2 left feet, if you can walk, you can do these. I'm not saying the are all easy, they go from super beginner (the American Heart Assoc's Start Walking series all the way up to a 5 mile an hour pace and some of those miles are using "boosters" hand weights, stretch bands etc. As far as yoga goes anything by Shiva Rea is great. The most important thing when starting any new form of movement is to go at your own pace and don't over do it. Nothing is worth risking an injury. Good luck and Namaste.

I walk with Leslie all the time. The DVD's we have are rather old, I'd like to see what she looks like now.
