The Wall of Pins

So it has been a bit of a headache trying to put up our collection of Disney pins at the new house. We're still in the middle of it, so this is a work in progress. Still, you can see our plan on having the frames up in our Family Room area, or at least, on side of it. With a couple of wicker chairs, it should turn out as a comfy sitting area.

So our friends who have seen it already are calling it the Wall of Pins.

This is only about 50% of the pins we have. I'm going to run out of walls very soon.

clapping That looks fantastic. I'm actually quite impressed by your character door stops. That's a great collection. Are they antique?

And are the rest of the pins going up in the same area, or will that 50% be relegated to storage until you decide to display a different set?

Also, why doesn't the Dole Whip Pin vest get a place of honor on the pin wall? wink

Actually, they are garden statues. I just like them too much to leave them outdoors.

I still have some space on the wall left. I'm trying to squeeze in as much as I can, and there are also frames already on the wall that are still empty. I probably won't have all of them up, but I'm hoping for a substantial portion.

That's because I wear the Dole Whip vest at our monthly pin meet, and when I go to the pin event at WDW. Smile

Do you walk through that room on entrance to the house, or is that a basement or something?

The house is a split-level. It is on the ground floor, but a half level down from the living room. You don't walk through it from the main entrance, but you do walk through it if you come in from the garage.

Very cool room. Is this where the party will be when we all come over to your house? Wink

I have a friend who is an amazing artist. She also paints and draws Disney characters quite well. So when I have this space in the living room that I couldn't find a suitable print for, I commissioned her to do a painting. I knew that I wanted the Fab 5 in there, and I knew also that I didn't want them to just have their full face in the painting. So we talked about this for a while, tossing our ideas back and forth, and we both came up with this rather fun concept. The Fab 5 are all cramped into this photo booth and they're all squeezing in trying to get their faces in the camera!

The painting was completed about 2 weeks ago, and I have it up on the wall with the appropriate lighting. It is the first thing you see when you walk in the front door. It looks amazing, and I am thoroughly happy with it. You guys will be the first people online to see this.

That's fantastic ZapperZ. Does she do paintings for a living or just as a hobby/side work?

She does this as a hobby.

She was one of the finalist at the D23 Expo for the Donald Duck's "Portrait" contest. We all thought she would win after we saw all the other submissions, but she didn't (we STILL, to this day, look at the winning picture and say "Huh?"). And yes, she is very talented. That's why I commissioned this from her.

That's an incredible piece of artwork, Zapperz. And I LOVE the idea of the photo booth -- surprised Disney hasn't come up with that one yet! It would make a really fun pin!

Plus, the size of the piece makes it modern and artistic -- just great.

Nice lighting on the pic. You should just put her to work making those things and selling them on the message boards!

Wow that's a lot of pins! I don't have nearly that many, haha.

The Disney painting is really awesome. I do have to say though that the red, yellow and orange tryptic is amazingly beautiful. I love that!

I have never seen that large a pin collection in my life! Absolutely amazing; I can't believe that's only about 50% of your pins though!

The Disney painting is absolutely fabulous, too - if I had even a third of the artistic talent your friend has, I would be a happy camper.

Wow.... thats a nice collection. I mean REAL nice! I almost want you to take pictures of each little section so we can see the pins just a little better! lol

Are those shadow box's? Or how are you displaying them? My wife and I have been wanting to display ours and the kids, and I really like what you did. If your willing to give up your secret id appreciate it! lol

Right now... I just have a wall of cards... lol

I will have to update the photos here since I've changed a few things here and there.

The frames are actually the cheap frames you can buy from Michaels. They are not shadow boxes. Get the ones with spring clips at the back, because they have some depth to them and also have some give. This is important for the thicker pins. You want to mount them on foam core boards, but get the black ones with black foam core. If you get the black with white foam core, they will show if you ever pull out a pin.
