We might be back in the magic sooner than we thought!

Aaaaaah I have really exciting news. I went for a job interview on Thursday for a full-time Library & Learning job (basically what I've been doing part-time for a while, but a 9-5 type job in a college). I've just found out I got the job and of course, my first thought was, if we're BOTH earning a full-time salary, we can go to Disney more often!

Haha the original plan had been to save and go in January for my 30th, but I'm stupidly tempted to go at the end of the year - like around November/December. I feel like we have so many options open to us that we didn't have before. Anyway, there's no real purpose to this post, I just wanted to share my excitement. Now I just need to decide when we should go! I think I can get us a good deal in November if DH agrees to it. Also, I have to ask, is it worth upgrading to a moderate resort (say Coronado Springs) if we can afford it? Do people think the moderates are worth the extra cost if you spend most of your time in the parks? I really want to stay at CS but I also want to stay at Pop Century, so it'll depend if we decide CS is worth the extra.

Anyway, eeeeeeeeee I'm so excited! Laughing out loud xxxx

Well my thoughts started on our first trip in 2004..Lets go moderate..So for our two yearly stays until last year we stayed at CBR..POFQ..PORS..We had five awesome resort experiences..Then we made a fatal mistake..Last year we took an offer we couldn't refuse..40% off deluxes...Booked two weeks at Wilderness Lodge... gaah Was it worth it.?..Yes..Would we stay at a deluxe again.?...Yes, if an offer was on the table..Would we go back to our beloved PORS.?..Yes if no offers were available for deluxes...To be honest I wouldn't book a value ( not that any disney isn't awesome ) but after staying at a deluxe, it's now on our target..

Congratulations on the job, go for it. We stayed first time in Port Orleans French Quarter and loved it so if you can afford moderate do it!

Congrats on the job! Very exciting news. As far as hotels I have to say I have found out over my last couple of trips that I prefer deluxe or moderate. Not a big fan of value. But even saying that if you don't spend a great deal of time in you room than value may be the way to go. Would I ever stay in value again, yes if it was the only way I could swing a Disney trip.

Yay for more Disney! We've stayed at both Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs on our last two trips. We've never stayed at Value or Deluxe (though we will be going Deluxe for our December trip) so I don't have the full background to give you a good answer, but I honestly didn't think either CB or CS was worth the extra cash. Both resorts were perfectly fine, but they were both in need of refurbs and didn't have anything particularly spectacular stick out about them that I think warranted the extra cash ESPECIALLY if you are in the parks all day long. Now I have heard spectacular things about POR and POFQ so they might be a different story.

I've never stayed at a moderate resort, just DVC and value resorts. Of course I prefer DVC! But the values are fine if I want to save money. If deluxe were not an option, I'd go value because I can't imagine the moderates are nice enough to warrant the price difference. As a bonus, if you stay value you'll have more money to spend on other things like nicer restaurants.

Congrats on the job awesome

I've stayed at Value, Moderate and Deluxe ( we became DVC members last year). I would have no problem staying in a value. I've always liked them and we are only in our room to sleep so to me paying extra wouldn't be worth it.

Congrats on the new job (and the extra cash flow!) yay

We are Moderate or above people. For me the best part of our last vacation was stopping to relax and enjoy our resort. It made our trip that much more magical. We've stayed at both Port Orleans French Quarter and Caribbean Beach and loved them both. We had a newly refurbished room at POFQ and it was beautiful. It over looked the lake and was very beautiful. I've seen the photos of the values and they just don't have the same beauty. To me the resort is part of the trip!

We've stayed at values (ASMu and POP) and POR. POR is our favourite, but I have no problem staying at the values - sometimes the trip has to be a budget one. Our stay at POP last time was terrific, and we had better housekeeping than we did at POR. It was our first time staying there, and we'd gladly go back. We've never done a deluxe - just couldn't justify the cost.

Hmm thanks guys! I might check out the Port Orleans resorts, but I would totally be fine staying in AoA or Pop Century as we don't mind value, so we'll see what the deals are like. I'm so happy to have a full-time contract now - it basically means Disney once a year if we want it that way! I've been stressing out worrying about affording our January trip and now I know for definite that we will have enough money. yay

Also going to be in Disneyland Paris in two weeks! Buzzing with excitement! Would anybody be interested in a DLP trip report or would that be totally weird to post in a WDW forum? Either way, I'll be sharing it on another forum so let me know if anyone would like to read it. Smile x

Congratulations on the new job!

I think the values are just fine if you're going to be mostly in the parks, but if you happen to hit a free dining window, the moderates might be worth the step up. I highly recommend December because the Christmas season is so beautiful!

Please, please, please write a DLRP trip report! It's on my to-do list Smile

bit late to the party but wanted to say a massive congrats for the job!!! also we have only ever stayed at POR but I have to say I don't think I could do a value resort but on the same hand if it meant no Disney at all then yes I would! we don't spend an awful lot of time around pool areas etc and if we eat at the resort we usually take it back to the room but what I will say is we LOVE the walk from the rooms to the main building for drinks and for us that's what pulls us back to it year after year!!!

off to read about DLP I so want to go there but my thinking is "well I can save and go to WDW" so convince me I need to go!!!!

Sorry, just spotted this comment. Being able to get drinks at the hotel bar is a big pull towards a moderate. I think it will depend mainly on what deals we can get. Think DH would be happy with a value and doesn't see the point in booking a moderate, but I do want to experience POR! I would say for DLP, that it's worth seeing at least once. For us, it was kind of a Disney mini-fix rather than a full Disney holiday. Here's my rough breakdown of the pros and cons to give you an idea.

DLP Pros:
- Quick, cheap and direct flights/Eurostar from the UK - you can get on a plane in the morning and be in DLP by the afternoon. This is a big benefit for us.
- One bus stop for both parks and village - no long bus rides from hotels and you can park hop really easily.
- Condensed Disney experience - you can do the whole of DLP in about three days, and that's taking your time and not rushing on every ride.
- Hotels all walking distance from each other - really convenient to walk to another hotel for a drink.
- Parks have a distinctly French feel which makes them unique and worth seeing.
- You can visit Paris at the same time - it's a short train ride to the centre of Paris, which is well worth a visit.
- Dreams is spectacular and it's worth visiting for the show alone.
- Breakfast is included with your room and we managed to get a free half board meal plan too.
- Even value hotels have indoor bars.

DLP Cons:
- The obvious ones are less rides, less to do within the parks, and it's not as much of an all-encapsulating world like WDW.
- The weather isn't great if you go over winter/beginning of spring. Take warm clothes.
- Lots of pushy people within the parks.
- I wouldn't go for DLP alone as you might be disappointed, but I would go to see Paris and DLP together, as this made for a very exciting romantic holiday.

Hope this helps a bit! Smile
