What are you celebrating?

In MT's moderate comparison we were talking about being at Disney being something to celebrate, I was curious if anyone else had any funny answers to "Are you celebrating something?" Like:

- Canada Day
- A 90% probability I don't have that flesh eating virus.
- All the stuff I'm going to steal from the room.

My answers:

- A near complete reduction of our pesky 401(k)
- Spending too much at WDW
- Getting over that nagging cynicism problem. biggrin

Good choice. I think that's going to be a really high-demand job for decades. Are you getting that impression from working in the field?

Definately, it is always busy, but with the internet and tv shows most patients expect a totally different experience when they are in the hospital and don't realize how much the nurse does. They are shocked when they only see their doctor once a day for 5 minutes.

With the economy in its downturn nursing has been the only position in the hospitals to continue hiring.

So, I can say I am glad to be getting in yay

I agree! We need SO many more good nurses out there. There are some great incentives to bring nurses to certain hospitals as well, aren't there?

Hi Bali and Glassslipper,

Nice to see the positive posts about nurses. I work at a "major" school of nursing and we are definitely seeing greater interest in our programs..nursing is a noble profession and I'm proud to be on the "fringes" of it awesome

I'm with the rest. It's not just noble, but likely to be a great career. I think the ratio of what it costs to get the education vs. the income and job security you're going to get make it a great career path. There's a lot in question about the economy but one thing I can guarantee is that we have an aging population and they're going to need health care.

I have to say yay for nursing! My best friend just graduated with her BS in Nursing and took her test yesterday!

She is nervous because on the practice tests she got a 99.5% several times, but she went all the way to question 235 before she was done (you stop the second they know if you passed or failed between questions 75 and 285) so she is worried.

I have been in hospitals several times for surgeries and, while the doctors have been great, the nurses are who made me and my family feel more comfortable.

I just love nurses!

You typically spend SO much more time with the nurses than the doctors.

If the following post offends anyone, I apologize..

(Well actually i'm thinking, "Get over it", but I wanted to SOUND like I cared...)

I celebrated an ass whoopin' at WDW once!

I was staying there for a Florida-Kentucky football game and I think we got beat by 66 points.

I *almost* took a job with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation on an initiative to increase matriculation into nursing schools; I hope this economy is providing an uptick in people willing to go to school to get educated in such a worthwhile profession.

I think several TAMU-ers are mad at Kentucky for stealing their basketball coach and then firing him before he had a chance to recruit and build up the program.

I think it would be fun some time to go just to celebrate being alive, living in a free country, enjoying all the little things. I know some of us do remember to be thankful for these things, but I think it would be neat to plan an actual celebration-type trip. Plan a special dinner or two; treat it like it really is a special occasion. This trip is for our anniversary, but at such a time as we're not celebrating something else, I think I'll do this.

Darn tootin! Three bowl wins in a row and the greatest football night of my life - UK 43, #1 LSU 37 in triple OT (2007).

LSU was eventual national champion that year.

MT - also known in some circles as 'BigBlueMan', season ticket holder since 1981.

Great idea. Celebrating the little things. I think it's great that one of the "categories" of celebration is "personal achievement." It could mean anything--big or small.

I don't want to run the guy down, but sadly he would never have made it. He was in over his head very early on, and the University knew within a few weeks they had made a mistake. (A fact that came from within the highest ranks of the athletic department)

His temperment just wasn't what a UK basketball coach needs. You either have to be folksy and likable like a Tubby or Joe Hall, or someone like Pitino or Calipari, with charisma and a massive ego who will embrace the job, the pressure and the opportunity.

Poor Billy Clyde didn't seem to have either, plus his recruiting appeared to be questionable.

If you think the UTAM folks are jumping up and down, talk to some MEMPHIS fans! laugh
