What are your apparel buying habits while at WDW?

I was thinking about what kind of apparel I buy while at WDW and I realized that I almost never buy anything with a generic WDW logo - and especially nothing with a year on it that is bursting with characters.

I tend to seek out more unique items such as a polo with the resort logo, or, since I've become a member, something with the DVC logo.

I have heard from a reliable source that Disney, through some guest surveys, have decided that the average guest would rather have generic WDW logoed merchandise. Because of this, I'm told, resort-specific merchandise will start to phased out, except for that at the Deluxe and DVC resorts. I think we're already seeing this.

I guess we could all see this coming when the refillable mugs went from resort-specific to generic, but at the time I suspected that Disney had other reasons for doing that. Specifically, so that mugs wouldn't be refilled at a resort other than that one at which the guest is staying on that specific stay.

I guess the point of this post is to find out what kind of apparel you tend to buy while at WDW. I'm of the feeling that we Disney Fanatics tend to go more for unique and resort or event specific type of items.

The choice in the poll for Resort specific apparel shoud read: "I like to buy resort specific items. I didn't spend all this money to stay at GF and not have anything to show for it!"

Sorry for the typos.

For me it has to be something unique, as in something I clearly can't get anywhere else. I especially like the sports jerseys, but I'm sure I'll find other things that interest me.

I'm like you, Imagineer, and really like to get resort-specific items. I like to buy something to commemorate each resort I've stayed in. I guess I just think that's really special as the resorts have always been my favorite part of Walt Disney World, believe it or not.

Thanks for letting us know about this. I'll be picking up some resort merch the next time I'm in Disney.

Imagineer -- just found this blog post about Disney apparel. Maybe it's promising?

That gives me hope, Annie. I know that Disney's been returning to the "retro" Epcot look, but I wonder if they're bring back even more... clapping

Great find Annie, thanks for the link.

The old style logos for MK, Epcot and WDW in general are some of my favorites. Glad to see them start to pop up in the merchandise shops.

I guess my response kind of puts me in the minority. I prefer generic. I want to tell the world I was at The World. If they comment on my whatever, then I can talk about where I stayed, what I did, etc.

Altho, I will admit I was disappointed with generic coffee mugs. I held on to mine from Port Orleans for years...until I lost it in the divorce (from my first wife, not Donna)

Do you like to try to convert people? Get them interested in WDW?

I'm pretty big on functionality. I don't normally buy souvenirs, so if I'm going to buy apparel when I'm on vacation, there's got to be a reason--either I think it's attractive enough to wear a lot at home, or I need it because I didn't bring appropriate clothing on the trip with me. I purchased a nice long sleeve tee at the House of Blues store during
my first trip that I still like to wear. It's got a nice design, and
the HOB logo, which I think is a really nice message ("help ever, hurt
never"). I bought it because I needed more color in my clothing palette at the time. biggrin

Yes they did! That was back when the mugs were resort specific. I still have a Port Orleans mug from 1998. It just says Port Orleans, cause at the time they were called Port Orleans and Dixie Landings.

Great reminder. I completely forgot they weren't always "sister" resorts.

I have a Polynesian Resort long-sleeve T for functionality-needed-at-the-time as well. 'Ohana can get really cold! Congrats on color-fying your wardrobe biggrin
