What to do on 1st day, but not in a Park?

We check into Fort Wilderness campground tomorrow, 11/5, and we are so excited! We won't go into the parks tomorrow, but we will the next day and start our 10 day park hopping!

What can we do tomorrow to get acquainted with our surroundings and the transportation system? Where can we go? Can we ride the monorail or the buses without activating our park passes?

We could use a quick counter service meal tomorrow if anyone has a suggestion of where to eat outside the parks?

I've read so many tips and reports on this forum that I feel I'm studying for a big exam! Thanks everyone for helping to prepare us! mickey

You can use the transportation without using your park passes. There are plenty of options in Downtown Disney. I've never been but Earl of Sandwich is popular with the members here. I'm planning on having dinner there Thursday night.

You can go to any resort, and Down Town Disney. You don't need your park tickets for that. You could go to the Boardwalk, and you could check out all the Monorail resorts. You coul ride the boats around Seven Seas Lagoon, catch a launch from the Poly, or Grand Floridian or even the MK.

Oh goodie! Yippeee! Hip-hip! For being in my mid-50's I'm truly feeling like a little kid!

Thank you for your suggestions, that's exactly what we were hoping!

Great isn't it? We're in our 50's too! Time to love life! Enjoy the house of the Mouse!

Our first day is also always a non park day, and we go take a walk around the boardwalk and hit up Downtown Disney. That helps us relax and set the mood for the rest of the trip! Have a blast!

We loved having our first day be a non park day too! We checked into our resort and then hit downtown disney.
We had a coffee drink from Ghiradellis in downtown disney that was awesome! They handed out free chocolate too!
Enjoy yourself! clapping

Since you are around Ft. Wilderness you could also try the Trail's End rest. right there at Ft. Wilderness, it's right next door to the Hoop De Doo review location.
