What do you think of the Fantasyland Expansion Update - Including the Closing of Snow White's Scary Adventures?

To piggyback off of Jeff C's post about the Seven Dwarves Mine Train rollercoaster, here's the original info from Disney Parks Blog. I thought you might enjoy the other concept art.

But question - what do we think of Snow White's Scary Adventures closing? Other than I hate for an older ride to close...I think the new Snow White-themed roller coaster will be better. Snow White really was scary for little ones!

I know it's hoping against hope for them to keep the "scary" stuff, but looking at the original rides I always feel like "scary" was supposed to be part of Disney. Haunted Mansion would be terrifying. If your kid doesn't like being scared, don't ride it. I kinda like Snow White's Scary Adventures. I'm sure they'll do something more modern and less scary and on technical merit it will probably be much better, but I hate losing the older rides.

It's funny though - I never really thought HM was all that scary - until I took a 5 year old on it. Seeing it through her eyes, and remembering how real special effects are to little ones - gave me a new appreciation for it. Up til then, I considered all Disney rides pretty benign (well, before Tower of Terror came along.)

I agree - We rode Snow White for the first time in 2008 and I thought it was kinda fun. But then again, I'm...um...over 30 *cough* and with no kids, wouldn't get that it might scare a kid.

I do think they should have some scary and some not so scary top those that kinda enjoy the scary rides have enough to do, and those that don't can do something else.

As a kid I used to be TERRIFIED of HM and Snow White. TERRIFIED.

Now, neither of them are scary (thank goodness!) and I appreciate them for what they are. Kind of sad a piece of history is being lost.

Hope the new ride isn't just a kid ride...

I really hope they don't just turn it into a kid's thing. I really enjoy the Snow White ride and it did scare me as a kid, but there isn't anything wrong with that.

For some reason I get a kick out of all the "ride a cart through painted scenery" rides. They weren't my favorite when I first started going, but the more I go the more I like those.

Let me clarify: I don't have a problem with scary rides. Not even the really scary ones. If you don't want to ride scary rides, then don't. But I've always thought of FL as geared toward little children - look at the scale of everything. That's not to say that adults cannot and should not ride. Of course they should! But SWSA always seemed, I don't know, out of place to me. Clearly, it DOES have a place - as a mildly scary ride. Let's hope the new ride fits the same bill. AND - let's hope the cars are bigger than Barnstormer!

Say what now?? It's closing??

I can't say I am super sad though..it wasn't every a much do & it came along after my childhood so I don't have any nostalgic memories...I'm excited about the expansion though. I like change..as long as I approve of it.

That was when it was toned down -- SWSA has been around a lot longer than that...

I think that's when it was changed to be more like Disneyland...but I don't remember it before then.

Wow - yes, I would be shocked to find out it's as new as that. It's got that "vintage" feel to it.

As Snow White is my favorite princess and tends to be left out a lot...I'm sad.

Does anyone know if they're planning on opening the expansion all in one go, or opening it in stages of whatever areas of it are ready first?

Basically, I'm just really excited to see it and I'm hoping for some of it to be open by September, even though I'm pretty sure it won't be Smile

That's a really good question and I'm not sure of the answer. My guess is that they'd do some kind of "grand opening," but I can also see them wanting to get whatever is ready back in circulation.

Peg, they're planning phases, with most of it to be completed by 2013. I haven't heard a first opening date, but if I had to guess, I'd say they'd have something open for the 40th on October 1 - so it will just miss you Sad

Yes - I did some research on this recently. The ride was original to the park, but it was quite different, and from all accounts, scarier. Snow White wasn't even in it, because the ride was supposed to be from her perspective; in other words, guests played the role of Snow White. However, guests apparently didn't "get it" and it was redone. So even though this version isn't the original, a Snow White ride has existed since park opening in 1971.
