What is the going rate for Mousekeeping Tips?

Hi all!

I was decorating my tip envelopes which we put cash in when we have some around and so when we leave, I have it all done ahead of time, we don't carry much cash around with us anyway. Buuuut, it's been a few years and I don't know the going rate. When our DSs were with us, we add more because despite my best mom skills, they left disasters in their wake and it was a 2 queen bed room. sarcastic

So this time, it is just DH and myself in a King room and same for our friends (newbies). So I made daily envelopes for both rooms and for each day. Now I just need to know how much is appropriate? confused

Thanks!

Thanks! I knew I was asking in the right place! I already made the cute envelopes as a CM at a resort told me a few trips back that if the money isn't designated for the housekeeping staff, they are told to leave it alone. So I ALWAYS put it in an envelope clearly addressed to them.

NOW I know why housekeeping never takes the tips I leave on the nightstand...

Scott, you do not have to make up cards. They will also take it if you leave it tucked into or under the mousekeeping card that is usually located in the bathroom. It usually has the name of the person who cleaned your room on it and it is usually located somewhere on the vanity area of the sink in the bathroom.

I was told that the CMs that clean are told VERY CLEARLY that any cash laying out is NOT a tip, even if it looks obvious (putting on the housekeeping card would be an acception); rather it is recommended that you do either the card, put it in an envelope addressed to them OR if you have one of their towel characters, it can be tucked there. The reason for the caution is that they don't want someone to claim they were robbed. mickey

What about if you left it out after you checked out on the last day?

For me the problem with that is the maid who has been cleaning your room may have the day off so a maid who hasn't cleaned your room will get the tip. That is why I leave the tip daily.

I tip $1 per person inthe room plus another $1 for the room itself. If I'm getting towel animals or they are playful with decorating I do more. I also do a really good job at scrubbing down the room. Lol. It's weird but I sleep better.

I would imagine that that would be clear enough. I can see the dilemma though, so better to be clear and sure so they get what they deserve. I already made the envelopes for both of our rooms and will will start putting those singles in there.

No, we just don't carry that much cash around at Disney (we just use the card/band) so having enough to tip gets dicey. Our friends haven't been there for a Loooooooong time and so I just made a set for them to use as well. It's just better now than guilt later. After our first trip, some one told us we were really suppose to and since we didn't know we felt terrible about it.
