I AM a DVC member and since there is only the wife and I we have enough points to stay in a studio for at least 2 full weeks per year that is plenty for us. I think that if we REALLY tried we could do almost three weeks in OKW (the cheapest) during value season in a studio.

Wow. Three weeks in WDW might be my version of heaven mickey

We don't have DVC and don't have plans to join right now, but if you keep talking about three weeks in WDW, Vette, I might have to reconsider!

I've always been reluctant to make the DVC commitment. I think for the foreseeable future I'll just continue to play it by ear. 50 years is a long time!

Not a member, but we'll see how we like it after AKV in December.

Do you think your experience with your other vacation club has made you more or less likely to participate in DVC?

I'd certainly never say never. Although it's not on our immediate horizon.

We plan to join when we're in a better position financially to do so. Working on paying off some bills so we'll have some spare cash. That gives us 2 goals - be (almost) debt-free, and have money to buy into DVC! I think we can get away with a small amount of points to begin with, as we'd probably only go every other year any way. I think I'll go crunch some numbers now wink

A different financial situation could definitely improve my odds of joining DVC as well. Just keep crunching those numbers until they say what you want them to say! awesome

Hard to say. In a way it has made us more likely because we really enjoy what we have. At the same time it makes the decision more difficult because I want to ensure we get the most out of both. That becomes an issue as time is a concern and will only be moreso when we have kids.

We'd love to join but we're just starting out so it's just not financially smart for us. I have rented points from DVC members before and I totally think DVC is the way to go!

We've talked about it and talked about it - and aren't sure. Right now we definitely wouldn't because of money, but when we do have the money -- I think it's likely.

I think it makes a lot of sense not to rush. You'll definitely enjoy it more when you can afford it comfortably.

We are DVC members. Right now we have enough points to stay 3 weeks during value season. We do hope to double that. We are thinking that spending the last two weeks of January and the month of February in Disney sound like a wonderful retirement plan lol. Of course we have a while before this would happen so who knows what we will really end up with.

I agree 100% with those waiting until it's a financially sound maneuver. I crunched numbers for DVC when I was in my mid twenties, and although the spreadsheet said I'd be able to pay it off within ten years I'm really glad I made the choice to wait. Soon after that, I switched jobs, my finances changed, and things would have been less straightforward when it came to a DVC mortgage!

I love Hawaii, but I think I'll probably not do Aulani. We really love staying in different places and moving about. It's such a long trip over there that we like to stay for quite a while, which means it's good to stay in more than one place. But anything that gives an excuse to hit Hawaii is good.

We have 160 points at AKV but are really close to buying more. We're staying at Old Key West in three weeks and are staying in a studio instead of a 1br, because our October trip in a 2br at BWV cost us so many points. Even forty more points would've afforded us the 1br at OKW in July and the 2BR at BWV in October.

We'd like to add on at VGC, because we'd love to own on both coasts. We recently read that VGC will sell out this summer though. The best deal right now is at SSR, and while we love it there, we don't want that to be one of our home resorts.

It seems like SSR wouldn't be the best home resort. It's not that hard to get a reservation there is it?

Not unless you are looking to book a Treehouse Villa, no, it's not that difficult at all.

Many DVC members stand by this rule of thumb: Never own at a resort that you don't want to stay in MOST of the time. While I see their point, I also think that there is something to be said about buying points at a low price. Especially since, if you are wise about when you travel, you shouldn't have too much trouble booking 7 months out, with some exceptions.

We have 200 pts at AKL that we purchased in 2007.We love DVC and are kicking ourselves for not buying in 2002 when we were first looking into it,couldn't really understand how it worked. We only stay in studios and can get 3 wks a year if used at the right time. Also love the $100 off of annual passes laugh

Hi Admin! Yes, it's been a while since I've posted on here. But we have a good excuse; we moved! We live in Buffalo, NY now. The January trip was right in the midst of our moving plans, so we cancelled it. But we're going to more than make up for it with a July and an October trip.

And just to bring my post back to topic, we may add points as soon as this year. As I mentioned earlier though, we may not be ready to buy before VGC is sold out, and we may not buy at SSR, so we'll have to wait for the next promotion.

Would you consider resale VGC points? Is there even such a thing?

I think we'd consider it. For some reason, we've never really informed ourselves too much about resale, though I know it has it's advantages.

I'm not sure anyone has turned around their VGC contract yet and has sold it resale, but it wouldn't surprise me. In any case, by the time we make up our minds to buy there may be some to be had.

I guess I just figure that it's in my best interests to make sure I don't feel like I must buy soon. As long as there will be resale points afterwards I figure I can always get in.

Why yes, I am just going through posting on ancient threads today... mickey how are you spending your afternoon?

So many responses to this one but only two people voted in the poll? Seriously?

I'm reading through old trip reports, and still working my way through all the photos in the photography forum. biggrin

But to answer the question, we will not be buying in to DVC. Too late for us now, and when we were younger, we didn't have that kind of money. I'm trying to convince Peter to maybe rent points for a future trip though.
