Well, we're back from our week in WDW. We just can't figure out why we waited 14 years to return! It might have been the paying off the mortgage, or paying our son's university tuition, but really, we should have budgeted for this MUCH sooner.
This was our third time at POR. The first 2 times, it was still called Dixie Landings, but use either name, it's a beautiful resort. We had requested any room in the mansions, and Disney accomodated us - we had a lovely garden view in Adadia House. Check-in was a breeze, and took all of 5 minutes. Our only disappointment with POR was the food court - it is not what it was years ago. It seemed very much like a high school cafeteria now (and I don't mean that in a good way!) - too much frozen, reheated stuff, and the selections were not all that appetizing. (except for the build your own pasta - that was OK). We just made a point of not eating there for meals, and just getting drinks and fruit cups.
After check-in, it was off to the Magic Kingdom for the rest of the afternoon. Somehow we have never discovered Dole Whips in our previous trips, so that was our first stop. YUM! I hope the MK will be lovely when it is totally done, but we really didn't enjoy the walk over to Tomorrowland through the construction area. But, we were lucky enough to walk on to everything we wanted to see - POC, Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear, the Tea Cups, etc. - we didn't wait more than 5 minutes for anything! The only thing we missed was Peter Pan - the line for that was at least an hour, and we do it for old time's sake, not because we HAVE to. We didn't feel like waiting around, so we just skipped it.
For the rest of the week, we just went where the spirit moved us. We have always loved Epcot, so we spent a lot of time there. If we were in another park and got fed up, we always headed to Epcot to get our happy back. And of course we did Soarin' every time we were there, at least twice. Jeff - we tried the caramel/chocolate square at the German Pavilion - OMG, that was as good as it looked in your pictures! We also had lunch at the Rose and Crown, and picked up sandwiches at the French Bakery. Everything was delicious! There are so many options for lunch or dinner at Epcot - even Seasons in the Land Pavilion serves up a great Reuben sandwich. We had gone with NO ADR's, and I have to say we didn't regret it. Finding great places to eat was never an issue.
Our next favourite place this time was Animal Kingdom. We were lucky enough to see almost all the animals while on the safari, including both the male and female lions. The guides were saying that the lionesses hadn't been seen for quite a while, and we got to see them "posing" on the rocks. Fabulous! We really enjoyed walking around AK, and I even persuaded DH to see the Lion King show. He was prepared to dislike it (he hates musical things), but it even won him over. By the end of the show, he was singing along and tapping his feet like everyone else.
On Sunday, MK was open until 1 a.m., so we headed over around 7 p.m., and stayed for the fireworks. We got an extra show - as the fireworks were starting, the young man (mid-twenties) got down on one knee, and proposed to his girlfriend. The look on her face was priceless - it was obviously unexpected, and she was just so excited. It was truly a "magical" evening, and we were so glad to be there. The fireworks were great too.
Anyway, we had a great time, and are determined to return again. This time we won't let 14 years pass before going!
