Women Fighting Back - In DISNEY!

I'm so excited !
I recently became certified as a self defense instructor for women through the police department
with a program called R.A.D. (rape aggression defense).
We are hosting our first classes in March.

R.A.D.'s having their National Conference this year in Orlando at the Downtown Disney Hilton.
The chance to go to the conference would be amazing for us as we are starting this program
in our department from the ground up. With budget cuts over the past years, out of state training
is a luxury we usually can't afford.

I wrote up a proposal for me and my R.A.D. partner to go to the conference and ...
the Chief supports it! It has to move on to City Hall for budget approval.....
so please cross your fingers for me ...if it goes... I will have a great experience for
further training and .... I'll be back in Disney!!!

The advertisement for the conference shows Mickey Mouse in almost every frame....
as everyone at work knows I'm a Disney fan, I was cutting out the Mickey's to downplay it biggrin

The first thing the Chief said when he read my proposal was
"OH it's in ORLANDO" ....

Sometimes the bosses will surprise you and jump in on your side despite their eye rolls. We had to attend a training two years ago to learn the new routines for our gymnastics team and our options were Orlando and Reno. My boss wanted to go to Reno, but everyone else wanted to go to Orlando. Even though the boss hates all things Florida--especially Disney (weirdo confused ), we talked her into letting us do the Orlando session.

I'm not sure how long it will take to be presented to City Hall for the budget..
but I would think it would be within a few weeks....

The conference is July 20th - 24th.. hot, humid, hot! but I'll take it! crossfingers

I got the news yesterday~! It's a clapping YES clapping ~!

They agreed to pay for what they would normal pay for if we were going to a local school..
so they are paying for 4 nights at the Hilton, 4.5 days of all food, wages, the conference fee,
and two additional self defense classes -

We are paying for air & transportation from the airport to the hotel.

They also arranged our days off for before and after the conference so we could stay a few
extra days (of course, that food and hotel is on us).

I'm so excited!!!! Just trying to finalize with the person I'm traveling with on how many
extra days we can stay... I know she wants to go to MK at least one of the days ...

I'm going back to Disney !!!!!!!

The conference is 20,21,22,23rd
I know we won't be doing much those days, except maybe dinner in DTown Disney.
I want to go Saturday thru the following Sunday-
but I'm not sure my travel partner can get away for that long..
I'll keep you posted!

Ahhhh that's fabulous!! If you stayed in disney before and after the hilton stay you could get DME to and from the airport, though it might work out cheaper to just rent a car and stay at the hilton...
