Would you shell out the bucks for a higher-end restaurant, or would you be OK with eating at the standard restaurants?

I would try the premiums. Remy looks amazing (I haven't really looked into Palo.) We've been on two Holland America cruises and we've done the premium dining option both times. Both times it was fantastic, and I would imagine that Disney would be every bit as good, if not better. Having said that, I'm sure if you'd skip it and put your $$ somewhere else that the standard options are terrific, too.
I think I'd shell out the dough. Do you have to pay for alcohol on the ships or is that included?

Alcohol, and even soda, is usually extra. You get off cheaply if you're a water/tea/lemonade drinker
Heck yeah! I'd love to try those restaurants.
I thought the whole idea of cruise ships was that I wasn't supposed to have to pay extra for the food?

dsoup: THANK YOU I was thinking the same thing, that being that the food was all inclusive. Of course I admit that I have never been on a cruise, but that is what I was led to believe.

It is true...for the most part. But in the last few years, most of the lines have gone to at least one premium dining option. They're usually not much more - it's not like you're paying what you would pay if you'd go out to dinner - it's just usually an upcharge. The first time we did the Holland America, for instance, it was an additional $15 per person, and the food was phenomenal, just that little extra something special, and worth it. The standard dining room fare has always been delicious, and would certainly be just fine. But my husband and I really enjoy learning about food and wine, so for us, it's a place that we'd spend a little extra. Drinks and excursions, on the other hand, we totally do without. It's just all about priorities and options.
I would - I know the next time we go on any cruise, I want to do the premium dining one night. It is a 5 star meal for $15 each and usually includes wine too.

Is wine usually included in the regular meal at the regular restaurants, or is that an upcharge?

You have to pay extra at the regular for any beverages. We had soda cards and our waiter knew our drink order by the third night.

You have to pay extra for coke? How about tea?

I don't know - you got tea or coffee with breakfast and or dessert so I am assuming it wouldnt be extra, but beverages usually aren't included. If you drink a lot of soda/iced tea it comes down to only $1-2 per drink if you are on a week cruise and get the card.

At least on Holland, tea, lemonade, coffee, and water were free. Since we're a family of tea, lemonade, coffee, and water drinkers, we were perfectly happy! On Holland, wine is extra, even in the premium restaurant, but you could buy a bottle and they would save it for you until the next nite if you wanted.
Sorry to only be able to answer with the HAL info. I'm dying to do a Disney Cruise but we haven't yet.

So did I..that kind of looses the appeal of cruising for me..a little bit. The water roller coaster thing helps the pro lost.

Crap..we are strictly a diet coke and beer family! Haha!
Hi everyone new to the boards but just had to chime in. As much as I was looking forward to trying Remi we can't justify the price tag.

Hi Mousefan! Welcome to the boards!
I'm torn on the issue, since I pretty much want to eat everywhere available, but part of the appeal of cruising is supposed to be the all-inclusiveness. Have you cruised before?
Hi Brad, Yes i have cruised before both on the Wonder & Magic was actually married on the Magic in Sept 09. We celebrated our 1 year ann on The Oasis of the Seas and to tell you the truth the food was horrible in main dinning and would pay anything to eat in the specialty resturants. But i know disney food & thats not the case lol.

So you're a cruising expert! Do you think you'll ever do a non-Disney cruise again?
LOL Brad i am by no means a cruising expert i wish : ) but we are thinking about doing the Allure in 2012 as both of our parents are celebrating major mile stones 60 year marriage and 40 year marrige. But as much as we liked the Oasis ship itself we could not help but compare & it did not stand up to Disney in our opionions.
Bella it was everything you could imagine. We were married on the secret area of deck 7. We had 22 people with us. And it was truly everything we thought it would be and more. Being the disney nuts we are we really didn't care if anyone else would go along with it as long as our parents were there. Since it was the 7 day cruise we were married on the Thursday before we docked back in Fl. I would do it all over again. Our guests truly felt the Disney expierance : ) and could not say enough good things about the entire trip. This is one of my favorite pictures it is our entire group in 1 shot.
That's a great picture! Did the wedding photographer take it or just someone in the party?
Love that picture! I'm worried the gentlemen in the center is going to lose his hat off the ship though!
Thanks everyone the photographer took the picture he was great. Actually that is my husband and no his hat stayed on lol he had to wear it lol
