While many of us say we'd love to be in the parks all the time, do you think you'd enjoy working as a CM in the parks? I might be one of those people who doesn't want the magic ruined!

I agree admin. I am afraid that working there would take some of the "magic" away for me. I have seen the way some people treat the CMs even when the cast member is doing everything to try to please the person.
Tough one this. I can think of much worse places to work, but I'm not sure if I could keep up the being nice all the time. I understand it's long unsociable hours and you have to work most holidays too. This might be the killer for me, having to work while others are playing.
I can only please one person per day. Today isn't your day... tomorrow doesn't look good either.
It would probably depend on the job, but I'd lean towards keeping my work and play separate.
No thanks for me, don't want to spoil it.

This is a great point. While the line might be short for you at the bank because everyone else is working, it's hard to see everyone on their vacation while you're toiling away
I wouldn't want to be a CM, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be an Imagineer - developing ideas, writing for the parks - anything along those lines. I think I'd be great at it and it seems like so much fun.
Zipadeedoodah -- yeah, man
Id be an imagineer too! My friend Larry Nikolai is one and he has had a BLAST!
Many of you know that DH was a PT Photopass Photog while we lived in Orlando...I was always amazed that it didn't ruin Disney for him. If anything, his love of Disney was increased...he nearly cried when he had to give up that job. Tried all manner of ways to find a way to keep his seasonal status...was willing to "live" in Orlando for 6 weeks every summer just to keep his job. Wouldn't work due to training/update requirements...oh well, there is always retirement to look forward to

That's a good point millie. Guess it depends on what you're doing. I've talked to a number of long time CM's that love Disney just as much or more than they did before working there. Just seems risky to me.

That's unfortunate. It's no wonder people get fed up in customer service jobs like that. The worst part is that so many folks are paying their life savings to take a vacation to WDW and they want it to be perfect. Of course they're going to be disappointed at some point.

When I was fresh out of college I was convinced it was my dream job to work at Disney. I literally wanted to be a cast member since I was about 12 or 13 years old.
I scored an interview..went..and my little dream bubble? Popped.
First I realized I really hated Orlando. Second, how on earth was I supposed to live on the "salary" they gave? They explained that if you worked hard and took your job seriously you moved up fast..then I realized that no matter how much I loved it..eventually it would become a "job" and that's the one thing I never want Disney World to be.
I don't even think if I was older and retired..and had some money saved up..it would be something I would want to do. I always want it to be a happy place.
I would love to work for the parks, but in a communications aspect...in a building that guests don't see.
And hubby would love to be a chef there one day, but we're already in the process of moving for my job and I don't think this could happen for both of us for a number of years. We'll see!

I like the idea of working "away" from guest interaction, too, Southernwebgirl. That would be a good way to be inside the magic without having to deal with frustrated people and customer service all the time.
