I wish I had loved Epcot Center as a kid..

because Vintage Epcot Center just looks soo awesome!!!

I found this blog post today.. http://www.mainstgazette.com/2010/06/tomorrows-horizons-are-here-today.html

I went to Epcot once in the 90's and hated it. I was twelve and I would have much rather been at the mall with my friends than at Epcot. It was okay but I was bored..where were the rides?!?
The Dave went several times as a kid and loved it. He always tells me stories about calling his parents collect from a gigantic telephone and all the fun he had at Horizons and his love for Spaceship Earth? Well that is deep rooted my friends.

Now I wish I had appreciated it more..or even gone earlier when I wasn't quiet so cranky (sorry mom)..the pictures of Horizons & The Land just look so awesome!

Did you ever visit Epcot in the 80's or early 90's??

Ah the memories! Horizons has achieved cult like status these days, but I was a much bigger fan of World of Motion. Maybe because I was a boy and it dealt with cars, but there was someting about it that makes me still miss it to this day. GM still sponsors the pavillion, and Test Track is still a car related attraction which boasts a much more thrilling concept than World of Motion. I love Test Track, but miss the simplicity and whimsy of WOM.

The Wonders of Life pavillion was always a must visit for me. Goofy about Health, Cranium Command, Making of Me; I loved 'em all!

Universe of Energy pre-Ellen was just as long (and sometimes boring) as it is now. The dinosaur scene, though, was much more powerful than it is in it's current incarnation.

The Living Seas pre-Nemo was fun; every trip required a visit to Sea Base Alpha. I do enjoy the Nemo theming that the pavillion currently enjoys.

I miss the old narration of Spaceship Earth; in fact I miss all of it's versions. I think the one they just rolled out a couple years ago is the weakest of them all.

I'm not trying to sound like someone's grandfather who continually talks about how things were back in the "good old days", but I really do miss many of Future World's extinct attractions. It hasn't entirely been a change for the worst, since Soarin' and Mission:Space are world class attractions and truly make Future World special today.

Ah, yes! I loved me some EPCOT Center. I'm sorry, Bella, that you were craving the mall -- maybe you weren't geeky like me Laughing out loud I can always remember that rainbow tunnel leading into the Journey Into Imagination after-party. Very cool.

I was also a Sea Base Alpha fan, Imagineer. That bubbly hydrolater was pretty neat.

Also, as much as I love Test Track and Mission Space, I'll always miss Horizons and World of Motion.

Even World Showcase seemed cooler back then.

I'm 32 -- I remember going to Epcot maybe two years after it opened. I have some vague memories -- I remember loving Spaceship Earth (it felt SO futuristic) and Journey to Imagination (the current incarnation is just so lame, especially compared to how COOL it was. The Land was boring. The Living Seas was OK. I don't remember much about World of Motion or Horizons, but I remember loving getting to choose my destination. I remember Universe of Energy being sooooo boring, but I loved the song at the end of the ride (you can hear it on some old CDs). Innoventions and Communicore were SO creative and fun.

I remember not being such a fan of World Showcase other than for meals. For young legs, it was (and I guess still is) a LOT of walking. I did like Norway and Mexico - but when we got around to the non-ride countries I wanted to go back to something cooler.

I have to say, I'm also wistful for old MGM -- I was there the year it opened and Dick Tracy was all the rage and everywhere! They were roaming the streets, doing shows - the backlot tour was actually cool...

sigh.

I didn't visit Epcot until adulthood, but my experience was not dissimilar to Bella's. The first time I went I was like a teenager where I only wanted the ride rides and do all the exciting stuff. I thought to myself "This is it? There are only a handful of rides". Wasn't until my second trip that I really appreciated and found the 'magic' in Epcot.

Good point! I forgot about those late 80's early years at MGM. It opened in 89, right?

It's so nice that they bring back things periodically. It gives you at least some hope that you might see something awesome you missed. Of course huge attractions like Horizons aren't very likely to return, but maybe some bit of them will be included in something else.

Isn't that place just the most relaxing spot in Disney world? I love the aquariums, and everyone's so eager to go get on rides that they don't hang around very long. It's not long til you have the place to yourself again!

I've never gotten into The Living Seas..we went once and did the Nemo ride (we waited forrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..) and looked around for awhile but we were tired and hungry. This is something we should probably do first next time (after grabbing Soarin' fastpasses of course). I love aquariums and junk.
