Walt Disney World is home to more than 100 fantastic restaurants that will cater to your culinary needs, but sometime you just want to pack a meal to be eaten casually in the outdoors. A fun Disney outing that you don't necessarily need a Park ticket to enjoy, why not plan for a picnic on your next vacation. Here are 5 great spots for a picnic at Walt Disney World.
On The Beach
A classic picnic location around the world, many Disney Resort hotels have beaches that are just crying out for more use since the landscaping was changed in recent years. Grab a light blanket (or the top sheet from your hotel bed) and head to the water's edge for a picnic in the sun. Most of Disney's beaches offer chaise lounges to recline of while you catch some rays, or you may even find a hammock or two where you can snooze after a relaxing bite to eat.
Castle View On The Hub Lawn
During the day the Hub's Fireworks Viewing Areas are the perfect spot to have a seat on the ground and pull out a picnic. The little fenced in garden boasts a flat neat lawn, pretty topiary, and a few spots of shade depending on the time of day. The best part however is the unobstructed view of Cinderella Castle. Even though the spot is just off Main Street U.S.A. somehow it feels removed from the hustle and bustle.
Poolside At Your Resort
There's no need to halt your day at the pool to get dressed for lunch if you bring a picnic along with you. Simply stop by the grab and go section of the resort's quick service restaurant and pick up the supplies you need to make lunch a splashing success. You'll find ample tables with shady umbrellas around the pool areas. Plus, many of Disney's Deluxe Resorts offer simple picnic selections at the pool bar, or you can have private dining deliver to you poolside for heartier fare.
Sailing Away On A Pontoon Boat
With a bit of forethought you can have a picnic on beautiful Bay Lake, or one of the many other bodies of water at Walt Disney World. Pack your basket and hire a pontoon boat, then cruise away for an intimate picnic with your crew. Boats can be hired from the marinas of several deluxe resorts, and makes for a special way to spend some private time.
Dockside at Disney Springs
There are many wonderful spots to sit down for a picnic at Disney Springs, but my favorite spot has got to be the area surrounding Dockside Margaritas. Since the remodel this simple bar window has turned into a pretty fantastic place to relax with plenty of umbrella tables, comfy lounge seating, and easy access to some special cocktails at what's now a full bar. The strings of cafe lights that blink on after dark add an enchanting layer of urban relaxation into the night.
This list barely scratches the surface of the places I've picnicked at on my Disney vacation. Have you ever had a picnic at Walt Disney World? Leave a comment and share with me some of your favorite spots.

Ride the boat over to Fort Wilderness. There are numerous, shaded picnic tables throughout starting right near the beach and Pioneer Hall.
