It's cocktail Friday and today we'll be checking out five of my family's favorite tipples of tequila to be found at Walt Disney World. This liquor made from blue agave is one of the National Drinks of Mexico, and in the United States, Monday July 24th is National Tequila Day! We're going to get started now so that you can celebrate all weekend long.
When you're talking Tequila in Walt Disney World the first place that comes to mind is Epcot's La Cava del Tequila in the Mexico Pavilion is considered THE place to go at Walt Disney World if you are looking for tequila. This bar nestled deep within the Pyramid is a fan favorite for good reason, the decor, art work, original artifacts and products served, regale the heritage and tradition of tequila making in Mexico. Whether you choose a flight of tequila shots, or one of the many stunning margaritas La Cava will have what you are looking for. Our favorite is the Pineapple Margarita with Zignam Mezcal, house made Mint Cordial (a combo of sugar, water, and fresh mint), Cherry Liqueur, and a Black Ant Salt rim.
Eight-time James Beard Award Winner, Chef Rick Bayless reached out to the tequila experts from La Cava del Tequila when he developed the beverage menu at his Disney Springs property Frontera Cocina. Authentic Mexican flavors are on the menu here, and Chef Bayless needed some serious drinks to stand up to the food. One of the most unique cocktails on the menu is the Lucy. This bold cocktail is made with Illegal joven mezcal, fresh carrot juice, Torres orange liqueur, ginger cordial, fresh lime, candied mango. The colorful Lucy can be served straight or on the rocks.
Dockside Margaritas, the name says it all. Once a tiny simple margarita stand, this popular spot got a major upgrade during the Disney Springs make-over. Guests can now settle in to comfortable lounge furniture and relax under the pergolas of this open air waterside lounge. While there are a considerable amount of unique cocktails on the menu here, we're putting this on the list for the straight up cliche, a Frozen Lime Margarita. As straight forward as it gets, this frosty treat is made with Patron Silver Tequila, Grand Marnier, fresh Lime Juice, and Sweet-and-Sour.
The menu at Tiffins in Disney's Animal Kingdom offers a fantastic departure from the everyday. On the exclusive drink menu at Tiffins, the Hightower Rocks represents with sweet and smoky cocktail that lets the Casa Dragones Blanco Tequila shine through. Watermelon, Lime, and Sweet-n-Sour come together to provide an alluring fruitiness that balanced out the prominent tequila.
Last, but not least, we discovered a wonderfully delicious tequila based cocktail at Art Smith's Homecomin' Florida Kitchen at Disney Springs. There's a lot of tequila drinking happening at Disney Springs, almost as much as in the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot! The Fig and Berries is a "bright, sweet and tangy" drink that you definitely want to imbibe in. "Fresh muddled strawberries are combined with luxury Dobel Diamanta Reposado Tequila, fig jam, agave, and lime juice to create what we thought tasted like an upscale margarita." Cheers to Chef Art, for this tequila winner.
