When the heat is high and the Parks are crowded, don't forget that Walt Disney World offers a wide variety of fun outdoor activities for guests to enjoy. At Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort guests can slow down and get away from the hustle and bustle with some good old fashioned fun.
The Bike Barn in the Meadow Recreation Area is the place to rent kayaks or a canoe to set off to explore the waterways of Fort Wilderness. Paddling along the shaded canals you'll get a unique view of the property and its native wildlife. Rentals are available on a first come first served basis, weather permitting, no reservations required. The Bike Barn is open from 9AM until 5PM, and it will cost you $13 an hour for the rental.
Prefer for someone else to do the work while you site see? At Tri Circle D Ranch you can take a stroll through the stables to see Cinderella's Ponies and the majestic horses of Main Street, U.S.A. Then saddle up for a guided trail ride! A leisurely 45 minutes stroll through the natural beauty of the Florida brush is available for guests ages 9 and over. Trail rides costs $46, and is perfect for beginning riders. Reservations are recommended.
You'll no doubt work up an appetite with all that outdoor fun, so once you're done be sure to head over to the Trails End Buffet for a hearty country meal. Oh hey! Not far from the Trails End restaurant, you can climb aboard a horse-drawn wagon for a scenic tour of Fort Wilderness. Wagon rides depart daily at 6PM and 8:30PM, last for 25-minutes, and cost $8 for adults.
After all of that, if your get up and go has gotten up and gone, grab a hammock on the beach and hang out until the electric water pageant and fireworks start.
