I've been on the ground at the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival all week, and I couldn't wait to get home to tell you about one of my favorite NEW Outdoor Kitchens. If you'll be at the festival yourself, be sure to head straight over to The Berry Basket.
Shaped like an adorable little English Cottage, the Berry Basket is located at in World Showcase Plaza closer to the Mexico side, and across the water from the Odyssey Pavilion. This is it's first year at the festival and I'm really hoping that it will return because what we had was certainly delicious.
The berries used at this booth were provided by Melissa's Produce, a family run produce company near Los Angeles that has become one of the largest distributors of specialty produce in the United States. I really liked that all of the Outdoor Kitchen menus gave credit to the farmers and growers that were associated with the booths. It's a nice touch. The tea in Green Tea Berry Mint Julep was from Disney's long time partner at Epcot, Twinings.
On the side of the cottage the Disney gardeners had planted displays with strawberries and blueberries to showcase the fresh flavors that were in the food. I was excited to see the berries being grown in such a small space because it gave me great ideas for how to incorporate them at home.
We ordered the Warm Wild Berry Buckle, and a Non-Alcoholic Green Tea Berry Mint Julep. Both of these items were really good and if I had more time to go back for seconds, I'm sure that I would have. The Berry Basket was my second favorite Outdoor Kitchen of the Festival.
Twinings Green Tea Berry Mint Julep comes either with or without alcohol. I was looking for something bright and refreshing without the booze, so I ordered the virgin drink for $4.25. This did not disappoint, it was everything that I wanted in a frozen berry libation with beautiful notes of blackberry, raspberry, and just a hint of mint.
Warm Wild Berry Buckle is a classic comfort dessert with fresh juicy berries baked into a warm crumble cake with just a hint of spice. The Buckle served with a Pepperberry Sorbet that while tasty, I could have lived without. The whole thing is vegetarian, $4.25, and DDP eligible.
