The Walt Disney World Resort has announced it is closing its theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs as of 5 p.m. today and all locations will remain closed all day Friday, October 7, as the Orlando area braces for the arrival of category 4 Hurricane Matthew.
The Disney Parks website is updating its posted theme park times as of press time and the official word from Disney is: "Based on the most recent forecasts for Hurricane Matthew, Walt Disney World theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, miniature golf courses and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will all be closed today by 5 p.m. and will remain closed through Friday, Oct. 7. Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom Theme Park is also canceled for tonight and tomorrow."
Matthew is currently a category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 140 miles an hour.
We are also seeing reports that Disney's Vero Beach Resort and Disney's Hilton Head Resort are also closed.
The last time Walt Disney World Resort theme parks closed was in 2005 during Hurricane Wilma.
We're keeping all of our readers, friends, and co-workers in Florida in our thoughts. Stay safe out there.

Checked with the front desk 3 times, hoping we are safe at Disney all star sports..especially if we have 140mph winds, very scary with my 84 yr old mother, spouse and two children, what a way to celebrate her 84th birthday!

We were there till 5pm last night and had a great time. They are closed today, but the weather doesn't seem that bad, but glad they are taking precautions for our safety and the safety of their staff. We'll be back tomorrow for more fun :-)
