Celebrating Epcot’s 35th Anniversary In Park October 1, 2017

On Oct. 1, 1982 Walt Disney World opened its second Theme Park on the vast Florida property. A Park dedicated to the exploration of art, science, and culture, Epcot was a new kind of destination, a permanent world's fair where guests could enjoy learning about the world around them and new horizons in the future.

On October 1st, 2017 Disney Parks will be celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the opening of Epcot. Let's take a look at some of the fun things Disney has in store for this very special day.

Pick Up Your Commemorative Guide Map

Available for guests at the theme park's Main Entrances (International Gateway and Guest Relations) commemorative maps are a nice way to remember that you shared this bit of Disney history. Pick one up on your way into the Park though, because they may be in high demand.

Official Anniversary Celebration

Epcot's Fountain Of Nations Stage is where the opening ceremonies kicked off back in 1982, and it's the spot that the anniversary celebration will continue. A special 35th anniversary celebration will be held at 10:01 a.m. so be sure to get your spot early as Disney fans will gather around and enjoy special performances by the popular entertainers Mariachi Cobre and Voices of Liberty.

Special Edition: IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth

End your night at the Park by viewing a special edition of Epcot's nighttime fireworks show, "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth." The spectacular light and effects show takes place on World Showcase can be viewed from locations around the promenade. While the show begins at 9 p.m., you'll want to find your place along the water earlier to ensure the best viewing.

35th Anniversary Merchandise

A retro-inspired merchandise collection has been created to "capture the essence of a spirited phrase from Epcot's beginnings, "We've just begun to dream." Using colors (purple, pink, red, orange, and gold) and motifs from the first year Epcot merchandise. The line offers both a sense of nostalgia, and hope for the future. Don't forget to pick up your "I Was There" shirt too!

Anniversary gear will be available at a special "pop up shop", just past the Epcot Art of Disney store. It's open for one day only, and just while while supplies last. According to the Disney Parks Blog, if you aren't able to attend for the anniversary celebration you can still purchase the limited edition merchandise, excluding the "I Was There" line. All you have to do is log on to the Shop Disney Parks App and place your order.
