As part of a new deal between the Turner Classic Movies cable channel and The Walt Disney Company, The Great Movie Ride will be getting an update as early as next spring.
This new deal which is being officially announced today, joins TCM with two divisions of The Walt Disney Company.
The changes to the attraction reportedly include "Presented by" credits for TCM on the attraction posters, banners, and marquees. The ride will also display the TCM logo. The ride's queue will feature digital movie posted and a new pre-ride video hosted by TCM host Robert Osborne.
The video will feature commentary on the films the guests experience during the ride. The ride's final film montage will be updated with new "classic movie moments" and after the ride is over guests can have a photo opportunity with a classic movie theme.
The other part of the deal has the Walt Disney Studios providing TCM with vintage movies, cartoons, documentaries, and episodes of shows including 'Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color.' The shows will be shown in programming blocks as 'Treasures From the Disney Vault' several times during the year.
The first special Disney programming block is planned for December 21 starting at 8 p.m. and running through 5 a.m. on December 22. Shows planned for this first block include 'The Disneyland Story,' 'Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier,' and 'The Vanishing Prairie.'
The changes at the Great Movie Ride are expected to occur as early as the spring of 2015.
According to a story in the New York Times, this deal came about after a TCM employee suggested that the two companies would make great partners after she returned from a family vacation at Walt Disney World. The paper reports that the employee has been promoted.
TCM is part of the Turner Entertainment Networks division at Turner Broadcasting System. The financial terms of the deal between TCM and The Walt Disney Company were not disclosed.

DH and I took his 90 year old mother on the Oct 2014 TCM cruise on the Disney Magic. It was amazingly! Looking forward to next year's cruise. Glad to see this new partnership!

I'm looking froward to it too. This has always been one of my favorite rides (because I love old movies) and I'm really looking forward to seeing how Turner freshens it up!
