Disney Begins Development on Live-Action Adaptation of 'Dumbo'

Dumbo is flying back into theaters sometime in the near future.

Disney is reportedly working on a live-action adaptation of the 1941 animation classic that will likely involve a CG animated flying elephant in the title role.

The script is being written by Transformers scribe Ehren Kruger and will reportedly add a new family storyline that parallel's the original story. The film is being produced by Justin Springer (Tron: Legacy) and Kruger.

Dumbo is the latest Disney animated classic to be given the live-action treatment.

This summer's Maleficent has earned the studio $630 million so far, and next spring Disney is releasing a live-action adaptation of Cinderella directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Also in the works is a live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book directed by Jon Favreau and Beauty and the Beast directed by Bill Condon.
