As part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the DisneyVoluntEARS program the Disney Cruise Line recently held the first ever AquaDucky Derby in the pools and water coasters on the ships. The derby was a benefit for Make-A-Wish International.
Guests and crew on DCL decorated thousands of rubber ducks for the race. The ducks were placed at the top of the AquaDuck on the Dream and Fantasy, and then 10,000 gallons of water rushed into the coaster sending the ducks racing to the finish line. Over on the Magic and Wonder, guests and crew members voted for the best decorated duck as One Direction's That's What Makes You Beautiful played in the background. The ducky race took place in the Goofy pool.
The money raised in the AquaDucky races is being donated to Make-A-Wish International, an organization that grants wishes for children who are facing life-threatening medical conditions in 48 countries outside of the United States. DCL is a long-time Make-A-Wish supporter and has fulfilled nearly 700 cruise wishes for children and their families every year.
As part of the Disney VoluntEARS program, DCL cast and crew members completed 75 community outreach projects, donating more than 4,500 hours of service to nonprofit organizations onboard the ships and in communities throughout Florida, The Bahamas, Mexico, and Europe in 2012.
