Disney Dream Officially Becomes a Disney Ship

Meyer Werft, the German company that is built the ship, has officially handed the Disney Dream over to Disney in a "traditional maritime ceremony." The flag of the company was lowered and replaced with the Disney flag to signify the ship's change of ownership.

The ship will be captained by Tom Forberg, who has been with Disney Cruise Lines for fifteen years. In fact Forberg launched both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder and is no stranger to sailing on a new Disney vessel.

The ship isn't heading for Florida just yet, however. It will remain in Bremerhaven for another week, taking on supplies and crew. It is currently scheduled to depart on December 19th and to arrive in Port Canaveral on January 4th, 2011.
