Disney Films Receive Nine Oscar Nominations
The nominations for the 87th Annual Academy Awards were announced earlier this month and Disney films earned nine nominations in seven different categories. The nominated films include the animated hit Big Hero 6, the summer blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy, and Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Disney received nine nominations in seven categories!
The nominees are:
- Meryl Streep: Actress in a Supporting Role, Into the Woods
- Big Hero 6: Animated Feature Film
- Into the Woods: Costume Design
- Into the Woods: Production Design
- Maleficent: Costume Design
- Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: Makeup and Hairstyling
- Feast: Short Film (Animated)
- Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Solider: Visual Effects
- Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: Visual Effects
One of the "snubs" people are talking about this year is the lack of a nomination for Emily Blunt for her role in Into the Woods. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as the Baker's Wife in the film. Into the Woods also failed to receive a nomination for Best Picture.
Big Hero 6 is up against The Boxtrolls, Song of the Sea, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya in the Animated Film category.
This year's Academy Awards ceremony will air Sunday, February 22 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC.
