Disney Planning to Donate $2 Million For Hurricane Relief Efforts

It's no secret the Walt Disney Company is generous to various charities and causes, and recently, the company has announced its intentions to contribute some $2 million to the relief efforts after last week's Hurricane Sandy.

Disney plans on donating $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid in immediate relief efforts and another $1 million to other organizations that are to be involved in the ongoing relief efforts. In addition, Disney will be matching employee contributions to organizations helping with the aftermath of the storm dollar for dollar through Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.

Disney is also getting the message of relief needs out through its airwaves with public service announcements going out through ABC, ESPN and Radio Disney. The Disney Channel also is featuring a television spot to raise awareness of preparation for disasters and emergencies.

Robert Iger, Walt Disney Company's CEO, said on Disney's efforts to help in the wake of Sandy:

It's hard to fathom the utter devastation from this storm. Thousands of people in the hurricane's path lost everything and face the daunting challenge of putting their lives and communities back together. We hope this helps provide immediate aid needed to get through this disaster and begin the road to recovery.
