Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa Gingerbread House

One of my favorite holiday treasures at Walt Disney World is one that's just slightly off the beaten path, yet every year it draws thousands to expand their world view and make a stop at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa to see the giant Gingerbread House.

The stunning display debuted November 19 in the hotel's grand lobby, and will be up making gingerbread dreams come true through through January 1, 2016. This years marks the 17th anniversary of the life-size house. The Grand Floridian's Christmas gift is 16 feet high with 40 window panes, made with 1,050 pounds of honey and 700 pounds of chocolate - the team spends more than 400 hours just baking the fresh gingerbread with Chef Erich Herbitschek's classic gingerbread recipe from Austria. How much gingerbread does all that work make? A total of 10,000 pieces!

Each year the stunning house is covered with ornaments and cookies that are almost too pretty to eat. However, don't pass on buying a piece because Chef Herbitschek's stollen bread recipe is absolutely scrumptious. Around the back you will find the house is actually a gift shop where you can buy all sort of delicious sweets and treats from the Disney pastry chefs and confectioners. Open Daily 10am -10pm the friendly cast members are more than happy to help you pick out holiday treats for your whole family to enjoy.

What sort of goodies can you find in this real life candy cottage?

  • Milk Chocolate Covered Gingerbread
  • White Chocolate Covered Gingerbread
  • Dark Chocolate Mickey Pops
  • White Chocolate Elsa Pops
  • Gingerbread Ornaments
  • Small Gingerbread Houses
  • Chocolate Peppermint Bark
  • Gingerbread Shingles

  • Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Chocolate Truffles
  • Gingerbread Men
  • Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Gluten Free Gingerbread Men

  • and much more!

So if you need a way to fill a non-Park day at Disney, or just want to escape the Magic Kingdom crowds for a bit in the afternoon, hop the monorail over to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and visit the magnificent Gingerbread House to pick up a snack or two.

These creations are so beautiful. I was very happy to find the Contemporary display open and selling gingerbread in the second week of November. No commemorative pins were available yet, but it was within their first few days, so my gingerbread man was so soft and fresh! Delicious. My favorite creation so far is the gingerbread carousel from Beach Club a few years ago. It was marvelous!

I love this gingerbread house! We have seen it three years in person and I never get past the awe of it! I wish every child in the world could see it.
